Gefen launches new High Definition Video and Touch Screen Extender for digital signage and remote display operations
08.07.2005

The ex-tend-it DVI/RS-232 Extender from Gefen offers an easy, plug and play method of sending high definition video up to 150 feet over CAT-5 cables.

Equipped with both DVI and RS-232 ports, it supports both high definition video displays and touch screen applications and enables local remote control. When used with a Gefen DVI to HDMI Adapter, HDMI displays may be used as well.

"The DVI/RS-232 Extender is ideal for varied applications ranging from all-digital signage to remote computer operation and touch screen controls for total home automation," said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO.

Multiple high definition video resolutions up to 1080p or 1920x1200 are maintained consistently before, during and after extension.

Gefen’s DVI/RS-232 Extender allows users to extend digital high definition video beyond its specified 5 meter distance limitation. The use of cost-effective, industry standards CAT-5 cables streamlines both cost and installation.

To integrate Gefen’s DVI/RS-232 Extender requires nothing more than connecting the sender unit to the video source and the receiver unit to the extended display. Two CAT-5 cables, available in several lengths from Gefen, connect local and remote components.

The unit comes with a 5 volt power supply, which can be connected at either the local or remote location for greater flexibility.

Priced competitively at $599, Gefen’s DVI/RS-232 Extender is available to order online at www.gefen.com or through a Gefen reseller.
