hello,

I hope I post this problem in the correct section.
I have a Gbox V3000 positioner and since 2 days I expirience some problems. Sometimes the display goes off, remains just 2 small red arrrows on display. When I try to power off, then power on sometimes display appears (it is in yellow) and I can move my antenna, but suddenly display goes off and I can not do anything.
Sometimes display is blinking then goes off and after some minutes goes on (in yellow).

I think the problem is relating to power or a component (diodes, capacitors or some voltage regulator) from the motherboard...

If someone encountered similar problem maybe could help me.

Welcome to the forum!!
Yep could be either a Power Supply problem, display problem or a cold solder joint. Does the display cable plug into a plug on the motherboard, or is it directly soldered? I do not presently have one so I can't look.

It seems that it is directly soldered.
Take a look to to following link:

Some years ago a member of this forum had another problem and took some picture inside box (there are 2 pictures, on his las reply).

Anyway..it is strange..sometimes displays works ok...I have no issues moving my antenna...but most of the time display it is partially off , only those 2 red arrows activated...

About the only thing you can do is: 1) Visually check the capacitors. Look for a bulging top or leakage showing about the capacitor on the board side. Replace any that show signs of either.
2) inspect the bottom of the boards of hairline cracks on the solder connections. Solder as necessary.

Thanks...I'll take a look tomorrow..also I'll try to make a picture of the board and place it here.

I inspected the boards and it seems ok...
Here are some photos...

Did you examine the solder joints on the bottom of the boards? That is likely where the problem is.

Yes...I examined it. It is ok (but I'm not an expert :) )

I attached some photos (with boards and bad display)... For me it is hard to find what is wrong because also I do not have the necessary tools to examine it.

thanks

Those you have mentioned are for the 4 wires (2 white and 2 yellow)

Interesting! The reason those 4 are prime candidates is because they are the largest pads on the board. When the board is wave soldered, if the soldering equipment is not setup just right, the largest pads will not get hot enough to form good connections. Board mounted relays and transformers often have this problem. Get a decent wattage soldering pencil redo the soldering. Good luck!

Also, take a really close look at all connections in the red rectangle.

Especially yellow circle 1 (can't tell from pic but that may not be a good solder joint) and yellow circle 2 (is that solder flux or a damaged trace that may be intermittently contacting the trace next to it). Agree with Cosmo Blatz - resolder anything in question. Good luck!
