Gas Pump danger ?

What is this email that is being sent out

saying that very dangerous prank that is occurring in numerous states. Some person or persons have been affixing hypodermic needles to the underside of gas pump handles! These needles appear to be infected with HIV positive blood.

Is this true ?

they get a good shot of your plate number to discourage theft.

while its probably occured it likely not a big hazard.

the trouble is paying for the fuel

Years back, they tried this with pay phone, placing the neddles in the coin return slot.
I'm not sure if this is actually happening, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone has tried it, that said, like mentioned earlier, EVERYTHING at a gas station near the pumps is recorded.

Right up there with HIV needles in movie seats... this urban legend is older than dirt.
