This guy IS the biggest **hole in the world, and TO ME, has WAY surpassed Barry Bonds as King P***K...!!

Gary Sheffield has strong words about New York Yankees manager Joe Torre, former Yankees teammate Derek Jeter, San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds and steroids in an interview with HBO's "Real Sports" that will air next Tuesday.
Sheffield says Torre treats black players differently from white players and says Jeter, who is from a mixed-race marriage, "ain't all the way black," during the interview with Andrea Kremer, as reported by Newsday. As for Bonds, Sheffield says "if I took what Barry Bonds took, why don't I look like him?" He also says that he never took steroids because "the bottom line is steroids is something you stick in your butt -- period."

He added that he would be willing to talk to baseball's steroids investigator, former Senator George Mitchell. "I don't feel like it's all that much of a threat to me," he said. A copy of the interview was made available to Newsday, the newspaper reported. The show airs for the first time on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
Sheffield, who was traded to the Detroit Tigers during the offseason, claimed that a "couple of blacks that were there" had an issue with Torre. He had a message to get across to the whole team, so he used me to get the message across.
"They weren't treated like everybody else. I got called out in a couple of meetings that I thought were unfair," Sheffield told Kremer.

The most important thing to Tigers fans is this quote :

"I'm a professional when I step on the field. I put all distractions, or what people call distractions or whatever they want to call it, behind." -- Sheffield

Seems pretty interesting, if he's such a bad guy, that it took about 5 seconds for a team to decide he was still good enough to play for them.

There are plenty of players that speak their mind ..... as long as they can play, thats all the perticular teams ask.

Jimbo

Sometimes he needs to keep his mouth shut. It does seem that he tells it like it is which reminds me of myself.

IRONIC how we are so forgiving about athletes...but if a non-athlete says the same thing, we are accusing him/her of racism....or if he/she says something about a player/coach/team that we don't like....it is fair game...

Interesting....and hypocrital all at the same time.....

You can't even spell it

Very true. Perhaps it's because we don't expect athletes to be that intelligent. They get the free pass. Yet, if the General Manager says something, they're fired .....

I think if he was a white athlete, then everyone would be screaming for his head. Because he is an African-American he can say that stuff, their is a big difference.

Sheffield has a son of mixed race ( I believe his wife is white). So I don't find his comments about Jeter to be a problem. As for the rest of the comments, if this is the way he feels, who am I to say it doesn't exist. It does in his mind, and that's all that matters to him. Last time I checked, free speech was still in the Constitution.

Exactly ... Unfortunately, there "is" a double standard. Political correctness seems to apply "unless" at some time in history your ethnic ancestry was oppressed in some fashion. Then, PC goes out the window if the historically oppressed makes the offending statement.

But remember....being non-pc goes BOTH WAYS....I mean, as much as ALOT of people tend to make an argument that "blacks don't make good QBs"....you can turn around and say....'well, not too many great white running backs.....'

Is that being PC or it just telling the truth....?

Damn...have we secretly moved into "The PIT" ??!!

I think alleged trueisms like you've stated are too general to hold water. First, I think there have been some good black QB's as well as some good white RB's. In your example though, it would be telling the truth, as the record books don't indicate if the record holder is white, black, blue or green.
