Hello,

I am trying to get Galaxy 19 (97W) in Brooklyn.
Dish size is 33"
LNB: X2- Full HD KU Twin Universal LNB "0.1
LNB Skew about 24

But I can't good signal. In perfect weather I get just 37% of quality on the strongest transponder:
delivery DVB-S, modulation QPSK
sat 0, frequency 11929 MHz V, symbolrate 22000000, coderate 3/4, rolloff 0.35
mis -1, vpid 0x1fff, apid 0x1fff, sid 0x0000
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
status 00 | signal 57% | snr 33% | ber 0 | unc 0 |
status 1f | signal 59% | snr 36% | ber 0 | unc 0 | FE_HAS_LOCK

I can't find more than 3 transponders on this satellite. I am sure that I have pointed it correctly because if I move it a little then I will lost the signal. Also All cables are good and I tried several small cables. Receiver is good too (TBS 6905) and I have tested signal with another receiver (SatLink WS 6908).
Could you help me to find the problem? Is it possible that problem with dish itself?

It is yesterday photo and dish not yet pointed.

Welcome to SatelliteGuys!!!
The dish is a little on the small side, but you should still be getting more than that.
I have not used my TBS card in awhile so I don't remember what good numbers are, but yes should be higher than that.
Could be one of several problems?
Are you using good quality RG-6 cable? How long is your run?
Have you tweaked the LNBF skew? I have never owned that LNBF, so don't know how good it is.
Does dish appear warped? Is the J-Pole plumb?

In addition:
Check the LNBF placement is correct (reference the manual for top lip to LNBF & bottom lip to LNBF)
If no dimensions listed may try Parabola Calculator 2.0

Ensure your LNB setting are correct, either:
1) Universal, L.O 9750/10600 OR
2) Standard, L.O 10600 22Khz ON <<EDIT<<

Use ONLY Quality RG-6.
Check your 'aim' with www.dishpointer.com
Set skew to angle listed. When facing the dish, the LNBF is twisted CCW if the satellite is West of you. CW if it's East.

Dish warp? tape a string across the face top to bottom.
Another string across dish face horizontally and at angles at various points should just touch the taped string.

>I have not used my TBS card in awhile so I don't remember what good numbers are, but yes should be higher than that.
It can lock just 3 transponders and only 2 works without errors in perfect weather. 3rd transponder got errors continuously.
I have tried Satlink WS 6908 and it got the same signal levels.

>Are you using good quality RG-6 cable? How long is your run?
I test it with quality 3 ft cable. And main cables are quality too but run about 25ft.

>Have you tweaked the LNBF skew? I have never owned that LNBF, so don't know how good it is.
Sure. Without skew I get just 4% quality.

>Does dish appear warped?
I see just 3 small dents

>Is the J-Pole plumb?
Sorry. What you mean?

>tape a string across the face top to bottom.
>Another string across dish face horizontally and at angles at various points should just touch the taped string.
ok. I will check it tomorrow. Thanks

Sure. Without skew I get just 4% quality.

LNBF skew for your location should be 24.4 degrees, the coax connector on the LNBF should be around the 5 oclock position.
Rotate the lnbf near that position to get the highest signal Quality, then try pushing it toward the dish and back away until highest strength is attained.

Also your TV or computer monitor or whatever you are viewing the strength on should idealy be up on the roof next to your dish.
The small movements involved in aiming will be only noticed in this manner.

I use Skylink WS 6908 to check the signal on the roof

I did some tests.

At the bottom two strings touch each other but at the upper side of the dish it have about 1/4" space

Also I push LNB on 1/2" back and signal quality increased on 5-8%.

I have calculated dish focus in Parabola Calculator 2.0 and found that it should be about 24.6". Also I have measured distance from the center of dish to front of LNB and it is 20.5"
Is it ok?

And I still can't get signal from transponders that I am interesting:
11.874 MHz
Symbol rate: 22,000 kBd
Polarization: Horizontal
Range: Ku
FEC: 2/3

and 12152 H

upper side of the dish it have about 1/4" space
I'd try to straighten that dish, I.E. un-warp it. (Carefully)
Consider looking at this thread: http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/thr...h-mirrors-and-magnets-another-version.343337/

The focal length measurement calculated by PC2.0 is from the bottom lip. There's also another measurement from the top lip.
(If that dish has a 'rolled edge' I'd measure inside the lip.)
Using both will place the feed at the correct relative height.
Double check these. Should have a visual representation drawn by the program.
BTW, you are using the WIFI (offset dish) calculations? (Forgot that piece earlier - CRS)

But why I can't get any signal on 11874 H
I've got just about all transponders as published at sathint EXCEPT the channels listed for 11874 V.
I also get NOTHING on . or very near, that frequency. Many of those channels I have scanned in on 11896. Titanium PLL LNBF in use here so I'm thinking there's been a change that's 'flown under our radar'.
& 12152 H?
Focus of dish is 'off', LNBF placement and or warped dish. I've got it at 12154, within allowable parameters.

Definitely check the orientation of the LNB like Fat Air suggested. I had a X2 LNB a few years back that I had assumed the F connector would point downward when the LNB was set to zero skew, [my dish was motorized, so I was going for zero skew] but it actually stuck straight out from the right side of the LNB when placed at zero skew in the holder. Messed me up for a bit, that one.

Wow,the dish is mounted to a steel I beam, I'd say that you definitely have a sturdy mount. My question is, what stations are you getting from those 3 transponders? That will tell us whether you are on 97W. Satellites are spaced at 2 degrees apart in that area.

I am trying to get Kazakh TV & RT America. I got info from Kazakh TV:
Galaxy 19
Downlink frequency: 11.874 MHz
Symbol rate: 22,000 kBd
Polarization: Horizontal
Range: Ku
FEC: 2/3

Today I got new dish and I have calculated it in Parabola 2.0 Calculator:
Large Diameter 920 mm.
Small Diameter 840 mm.
Depth 82 mm.
Distance of deepest point from bottom edge along large axis 425 mm.

But angle to LNB is wrong. Based on calculations it should be 22.7 but actually it is just 16 degrees and distance to top edge more than 900mm instead of 871.

>My question is, what stations are you getting from those 3 transponders? That will tell us whether you are on 97W.

I can see channels on 12084 V and I am sure that it is 97W

I have Kazakh TV & RT America on 97W @ 12154 H 20000
I can see channels on 12084 V and I am sure that it is 97W
If you see the Camel Races on AL KASS, you're on 97W.

Looks like the lnb arm is too low. Needs to be raised about an inch. BUT
record your quality reading that you get on 12084 now**, then readjust the arm & retune your dish elevation for max. Then compare this new quality reading.
NOTE: the calculator wont get you 'right on' as there's measurement inaccuracies to contend with but should get you very close to optimum.
**What is the quality reading now?

Kazakh TV & RT America are on 12152 horizontal 3/4 FEC. Symbol rate 20000 DVBS-2 QPSK.

Had a dish on this off and on since 2004. No problem up here in the Maritimes with a 75E Channelmaster. I used to use bandstacked LNB's , so I normally use 12053 Vertical to point dish. This has always given me all transponders.
