FyreTV Beta Testing (Please Read)

Tried to use the Info/Help function, first time all I got with the screen background then after a short time the box rebooted on it's own. The second time I tried it the box just hung on the screen background, no text and was unresponsive to the remote, did a power cycle to get it back.

so... now it looks like clips and movies might play (i see a loading screen with ratings and a tracking bar) but my box instantly reboots the moment that comes up. still have yet to be able to stream anything.

im beginning to wonder if this box is defective. its rebooting WAY too often.

How fast is your internet connection?

After reading Microdoted other post it sounds that he can D/L menus and such so he is getting a connection, but the freq reboots and crashes makes me think he may have a bad box; especially is he is not having any other networking issues around the home and/or office.

I got mine today and I am actually very impressed. This could definitely be a gold mine if it continues at a good update pace.
Plus:
- Very fast, movies load instantly and begin playback. This is with DVD quality and over a WDS wireless network...kind of wonder how it will work with more people online
- Very well thought out menus, searches work wonderful

Cons:
- Lack of any sort of documentation. Would of loved to know what all options were on screen/remote i.e. the sorting options for movie titles
- IR support is pretty weak. You have to face the box dead on and be within a few feet of it

Possible Bugs:
- When you select a movie the scenes are listed on the bottom. If you select a scene and begin watching, then press menu you are returned to snapshots of the particular scene at the top. It appears you are suppose to be able to jump around in a particular scene as well however it always begins at the beginning of the scene everytime

Questions:
- Across the top are Now Showing Movies (above the menus). It appears these movies are selectable however I can not get them to play.

this may just be me jumping the gun... but im unplugging it and boxing it back up. this is slightly ridiculous.

i have participated in several beta programs... everything from games (member of sony gap), to networking hardware, etc. in each program... the t's are crossed and i's are dotted long before any sort of public interaction. granted... the polish that the general public will see isnt there and doesnt usually come til later as hardware and specs may change, but there is always enough data, input, support, and functionality that the testers can start to help troubleshoot the issues and bugs that arise.

within the first week with the fyre box... i have experienced horrible rates of total system crashes and glitches (as stated, most likely due to defective hardware), cannot get ahold of the company to save my life (their forums have been ripped down), i have been left to post on a completely separate third parties site, have had zero emails returned or even acknowledged, and am left with an 'unknown company' holding my credit card information.

i understand that some of you have had a good experience thus far... but from my point of view, this has been a complete and total failure. i am two steps away from hanging it up... packing this thing back up, shipping it back, and canceling my credit card to make certain no damage is done. if they arent going to put forth the time to make sure that they are gaining every ounce of input and help from the community as possible... why should i waste my time?

and yes... for those questioning... i have attempted everything with the aspects of my network. i thought at first that it might have been an issue with bi-directional communication, and there was some obscure port being blocked by my router (or firewall at my office)... not the case. i am 99% certain that the issues i am having are from hardware failure.

how about an on screen keyboard for search like my directv dvr has. it is tough to see the remote letters in the dark.
I agree that we need better tech support if equopment does not work correctly how can he beta test.

Yeah, typing in is tough. You have to press the keys really quickly or you'll end up with 3 A's instead of a C. :) I'm actually used to that method of entry so it works for me, except for the too short of a timeout. My CD player has it better implemented. It will always stay on the same letter until another number is pressed. On that device, if you press the skip track button it would go to the next character.

So for CAT, you would press 222<skiptrack>28.
With this device you do 222(very quickly)[pause]28

Currently the Live TV and Help functions are not working on the FyreTV Boxxx....they will reboot your machine if you try to access them. The online user accounts will not be activated until the accounts are integrated with the forum and several FyreTV services.

The FyreTV forum should be up and running by tomorrow afternoon.

Regarding customer support, FyreTV will offer 24 hour customer support along with a live chat option and the email support as well.

I am sorry to hear that you have had such bad luck with the FyreTV product. Both Estefano and I have tried contacting you through pm and your email account to trouble shoot with you over the phone and rectify the issue. Yes we may not have all of the support documentation in place but FyreTV does take every customer issue seriously evidenced by the Company CEO and developers trying to contact you directly. If you would like to give us one more go around, we would love to resolve the situation any way possible.

Should the FyreTV Team determine that any of the hardware is defective, a new tested FyreTV Boxxx will be shipped to you as soon as possible.

We also have general company and technical information at our FAQ located at FyreTV FAQ

update......okay, i'm hooked up. was midway through a scene and i had an audio dropout. went back, started over and still had no audio.

well today, mine is acting up, it wont load anything and the menus freeze up, the only place i can go is to the home menu, and click on videos,

Mine is still working great, just needs brighter front panel lights

I had a similar issue where the somehow the categories only half populated. I could never get the box to do a refresh (suggestion for the team). In the end cutting power from the box and turning it back on fixed it. Also I am seeing movie titles from other members which I for the life of me can not find. I searched for Miss (for Miss Piggy) and it never came up yet someone reported there was no audio with that movie so I was going to check it as well...however never could find it.

Sarcopic:

We have seen this bug, however it has proven tough to catch. If you manage to replicate it (or anyone else for that matter) please contact me directly so that we can fix it.

It has happened 1 or 2 times for us but we have never been able to reproduce it.

Regards,

Estefano

the miss piggy was a euphamism no such star exists except as a muppet. I never mentioned the titles of the movies with no sound since this is a family forum.
