Hello,

I'm a bit new to FTA and looking to get a first setup. I am looking for some advice of what would work best. The place is near East Hampton, CT and looking for a way to replace her cable but hope to supply the channels she enjoy like; Bravo, TLC, Discovery, True TV, Life Time, and local Channel 3. It is also a condo and the back would face mostly North and I've seen satellites here nearby units facing west (I think). I am planning on a surprise gift for the Condo owner to help her get rid of the high monthly cable bill. Any thoughts recommendations and ideas are all welcome. I do not have a price range set in mine but would like to have a good setup easy to use for someone who is not electronically inclined.

1. You are not going to get the main channels on FTA. They will pop up now and then, but nothing steady. So this may not be the route you are after.
2. All the satellites will be to the south from SE - S - SW.
3. The best selection of channels will be on C-Band. You will need at least an 8 foot dish or bigger for reliable reception for that.

That stinks. kind of thought with her neighbors with the dish network thing their may be more options. I could be wrong on the direction the back would face. I think if you go out the back and look to the left you'd face south. that is what the other dishes in the area face. Still thinking of giving it a try and hopeful about finding some good stuff anyway without her normal stations. Not going for a large dish but still think if others use dish near her she can too.

Bravo, TLC, Discovery, and Life Time are only available full time on Cable systems, Direct TV and Dish - all subscription services. I am not sure about True TV, probably it also....

looks like OTA stinks in East Hampton CT. also. www.tvfool.com All appears it would take a large antenna.
True TV, isn't that the mew name of 'Court TV' channel? Cable only.

It is a tough change for someone that has cable. You will not get channels like bravo, sci fi, etc, but if your trying to penny pinch, then are some entertaining channels on KU that many will appreciate. For a condo application, i would suggest a 90cm dish. For around $200.00 you could build a fixed dish system which is what i would suggest, as a moveable system (a dish that can automatically swing to the multiple satellites in the sky) requires constant love.
