Does anyone have a good resource for FTA in foreign countries? Specifically, I'm interested in Ecuador. I have a few friends contemplating a missionary move to Ecuador. Needless to say, their English TV options will be limited there. I'm wondering if there is any English FTA availability there.

(Please note: I'm looking for English Channels in Ecuador, not Ecuador channels in the US)

Most of the footprints we see in North America aren't big enough to cover South America , I know Hispasat does have a large coverage area of the Americas but then your limited to Spanish programming , it will take a little bit of homework to see what's available in Ecuador , my guess would be that you have a chance for Brazilian satellites and other spot beams or small regional footprints.

I'm willing to bet that english programming will be tough to get and there is also the possibility that you need the mother of all BUD's to get the signal.

If I find out anything I'll post again.

Thanks. I had no doubt nothing in the US could reach them. It's just all the usual resources I've found are US only. It would be great if they had a few channels so they don't have to give everything English up (although since they will be learning Spanish, they would also probably turn to some of those nets). I also imagine there are many Spanish subtitled programs that still have an English audio track.

As long as the missionary work isn't deep in the rainforest.

With a Ku dish you could get the following Atlantic sats with a reasonable elevation of 15 degrees or better , Lyngsat list NBC feeds on Telstar 12 but I have no idea how often they're on or what they could be.

Atlantic Bird 1 .... 14-15 degree elevation from Quito
Telstar 12 .... 16 + degree elevation from Quito
Hispasat .... 30+ degree elevation From Quito

C-band has more offerings but definitely Spanish or Portuguese and requires larger dish.
Satmex 5 and 6 ( some regional footprints Spanish Language )
Star One C1 and C2 ( Brazil programming)

I may have missed something but you get the general idea of what's available.
