No chance! I have been watching FTA channels for a LONG time, and they will be around for quite some time to come in one form or another. Even when things change to MPEG-4 there will still be free and ITC (In The Clear) Channels. In Europe there are more and more channels realising the benefits of broadcasting FTA and I am sure it will get much the same here in the years ahead. Long live FTA!

is all fta channels going to be encrypted in a year or so ?
thanks

highly unlikely. People have been watching legit FTA channels for years now. and will be for years to come.

Does anyone know when MPEG4 will become more of a standard? I am thinking about investing in FTA hardware and if MPEG4 is coming along soon, then perhaps waiting is a good idea, however if more than say a year out, then I will most likely go with todays equipment.

Good question, I am SURE you would get a lot of use from a MPEG-2 FTA system for the next few years at least (and then some).

I would say FTA MPEG-4 would be more of a factor around a year or so after the DBS systems introduce MPEG-4.

Just my conjecture.
