Hi, I have Dish now. What HD DVR does Direct have that will let me hookup to my external ota ant ? What package has FS1&2 in HD. thanks

Any DVR will let you hook OTA to it - you need the AM21 OTA receiver added on to it. FS1 and FS2 are available in Xtra and higher, both in HD.

This is how it looks with a Genie and AM21.

Thanks, looks good. I have a Hopper now .Don't need but one DVR with output HDMI & Component for My Sharp 12000U in same room. Genie fee seems high, is AM21 something Direct offers. Do like to record locals. What will next receiver down from Genie rent for and would it be say like a Dish 722 ?

Yes, the AM21 is available in their website. I got Directv through a retailer, and the AM21 was free from them. Check around the interwebs and see what offers you can find. Using the HDMI and component at the same time is not reliable on Directv. Mine won't let me - some copyright message pops up. Some people have been able to share that way, however. Depends on your programming. I have Showtime, so perhaps that's why. If you're going to use two TVs on one receiver, I would recommend using a good HDMI splitter. That is what I do and it's flawless.

I will let someone else answer about the fees - I am on the old system and pay $3 for whole-home (which just comes with the Genie, can't be removed, even though I have only 1 receiver) and $10 for DVR fee, and HD free for life. This was a promo the aforementioned retailer had several years ago when I signed up. They have re-done the pricing for advanced receivers and I am not 100% sure how it's done. I certainly wouldn't pay $25/month for any receiver on any provider!

I called Dish Loyalty and they got things ok for now. AT250 with FS1 & 2 discounted...I really thank you for the info, even Direct tv seems not to know about OTA ?

I have had 4 different techs from Directv. 3 had never heard of it and never seen it before. 1 "didn't know they still had those boxes" since locals came on satellite.

The AM21N is the ATSC OTA tuner for DirecTV. You can get it a the solidsignal.com website.

Directv kinda went away from the OTA being a priority when the majority of the OTA markets were available.

The pricing that was in question earlier is really not as bad as it sounds.
It includes the HD fee, the DVR fee and the Whole Home fee all bundled into one.
However, these fees are only charged on the 1st recvr, NOT EACH recvr.

So it's Not $ 25 per recvr.

A second receiver is now a $6.50/month - up from $6.00/month- but not full-priced $25 like it would be with some other providers, is that correct?

For new customers, all receivers/dvrs are $6.50/month, even the first, but they pay $15/month for hd, dvr, and whole home service.

The am21 has not been professionally installed for quite some time. My market piloted them so we have over 50 left in the warehouse. This was probably 5 or so years ago that the pilot program ended for these installs. Since not a lot of techs are life installers like I happen to be they wouldn't know much about them as there is 0 advertising or training on them right now. In fact I'm one of four people left with that skillset. All this being said if you get the right csr on the phone they can attempt to setup an upgrade to have an ota antenna installed for 99. The am21 can then be tech delivered for the normal 50. But don't be supprised if you get a call from the local office saying we don't do this anymore.

Any tech can have all this added to an existing upgrade through our order modification group as well. But again. The chances of a tech stocking this stuff is like none. That being said I have 3 antennas on my van and 2 am21s
