Isn't that the FOX viewing position? :biggrin

I have no problems either. Use it quite frequently as I “moved” to an adjacent market and use OTA to get my “local” locals.

It's a very strange situation. On some Hopper 3's the OTA is working fine but some others drop the OTA channels from the guide therefore making them unavailable at least once a day. Still others have pixelation and A/V break-up problems. And this is all with the same software and hardware. I don't envy the engineers who are trying to narrow these problems down.

  • I recently received (September 2017) from Dish a card mailer with "Dish Gives You Choice" "and a way to save $10/month" it goes on to say "You Now Qualify for an Exciting Offer"
  • "Dish will professionally install an over-the-air (OTA) antenna for only $74.99, so you can receive your local channels for free"
  • "Plus you save $10/month"
  • "Hurry, Offer Will End"
Now I didn't respond & take 'em up on the offer. But If it was better than the room bow-tie OTA antenna I'm using now........ ;)

Maybe Dish is looking for ammunition when the local stations want to raise the access rates. If more Dish users are on OTA then they could tell the greedy local stations to take a hike.
I think that's exactly what they're doing

Im not having breakups on my ota dongle with my hopper 3.
I don't watch OTA live much at all. I do record NOVA and Frontline off of our local PBS and almost all of the recent recordings (~2 months) have issues. Some aren't bad but some are bad enough it's almost not worth watching.

Huh. This antenna appears to be worthwhile. It gets 4 stars on Amazon. $90.
It's very nice. I've been eyeballing it for months now, sitting on my van, but the OTA issues have kept me from buying it. I did install one about a year ago, outside of Bloomington, IL, mounted to the Dish Mast, 2nd story room, moderate tree coverage and the thing picked up 37 channels!

Unfortunately for me, I don't know if installing a better antenna would alleviate my multi-path issues. If it's outdoor and on the roof, would that help? I still think it would pick up bounced signals.

The ota dongle that Dish will install with the antenna, is it the same dongle that has been reported to overheat, or is this a new and improved device? Thanks

Same here. I receive Houston satellite locals and Beaumont/Pt.Arthur locals via ota antenna.

I get Atlanta locals from Dish, I’m just on the western edge of the spotbeam here in NW Alabama. I get my ‘real’ Birmingham locals OTA.
