FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

Folks just a reminder... (and so far most has been good... so again just a reminder.) 
Not every channel is everyone cup of tea, like any other channel you like it or don't like it. There is no right or wrong... you either like the channel you don't.
As always when it comes to news channels the talk eventually becomes political and then we have to delete posts or close the thread. We do not like doing this so PLEASE keep the politics out of this and also please do not pick on or flame other users because them might like this channel while you may not (or vice versa) please remember our no politics rule here at SatelliteGuys. The only place where political talk is allowed is in our forum "The Pit" and "The Pit" forum is only made available to SatelliteGuys Pub Members / Supporters. (No this is not a pitch to sell pub memberships, just trying to avoid the PM's from folks asking why they can't see The Pit forum.)

How is it that Dish has so many big contracts expire in the same time time span?You would think they have the foresight to try and stagger them out.

I think that having all the contracts expire at the same time, shows the world just how greedy the channels are with their demands. At one time I would think that congress would see this and want to do something about it, like forced arbitration and no channel blackouts for all disputes in the tv industry. But now, I have no hope of that happening with the new congress coming in next month.
I agree they need to spread them out farther apart and if they don't quit having these disputes and dropping of channels I am gone from Dish and I have been with the for over 14 years!!
I agree, they're the only two News and Business channels worth watching from my side of the fence
Again, Congress and the government should have very very little to do with the TV experience. This is capitalism at its fullest. The consumer is still given the opportunity to walk, and force prices up on themselves later. Me thinks you're barking up the wrong tree. Dish won't be blocking ANY channel. Fox will be the blocker, and Dish will be the blockee.
It comes down to even if the Government does become involved, the channel providers and the channel owners would still manage to mess it up. The threat of a channel dropping is leverage that works both ways. The Government could get involved with locals and tell the channel owners they can not refuse broadcast if a good faith deal is underway, and they themselves can't walk away from the table.
Sadly, the trouble with channel owners is that, for sports, more competition actually means higher prices as they compete for content.
Actually CNN ratings have been inching up recently, for whatever reason. Maybe they have a new kitten and puppy YouTube video program on during Primetime. I don't know whether Fox News can keep the momentum. The ratings popped because of the blood in the water for the upcoming mid-terms. Now with control of Congress coming soon, the ratings may sag a little because there is less fire in the belly.
As far "pay whatever", Fox News delivers 105% of what their market viewer wants, but there is very little mainstream support for the channel. It will never break into the broader market. A particular person watches Fox News, and it isn't Joe Q. Public who doesn't watch the news much. He'll watch CNN, when he needs to. Fox News isn't a general news channel, so while they may beat CNN and MSNBC soundly, their growth is limited to their very specific, but extremely loyal, viewer demographic.

The ad from Fox is vague and perhaps inaccurate -- any day now Dish may pull access? I agree, no need to involve the gov't; that will just end up costing more in the long run. If Fox News ends up getting pulled, I will call Dish and request credit for it AND the two months I went without the Turner channels.
This is not the case. Capitalism t its fullest would be every channel available a la carte and consumers able to buy only the ones they want. This forced channel bundling and tiering is pretty much the opposite of that. But that's what happens when you have a few content providers each with some exclusive and desirable content that gives them immense bargaining power.
Wanna no how little I care about Fox News? I won't even start a chat to try to get a credit if it goes black. Let it go!
