Forcing an update

I kind of remember reading something about a way to force an update through Dish's website?

Or am I crazy? Or both???

You can't. If you see P Smith's posts about s/w updates, Dish targets the update at specific receivers, based on their receiver ID. If your receiver isn't in that list, you will NOT get the update NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO to "force" it. When it's your receiver's turn, it will typically get it at your normal "update" time (the same time the guide gets updated, 3am by default).

Actually once your receiver is "targeted" then all you have to do is turn both TV1 and TV2 (if in dual mode) off with the power button on the remote (takes you to the screen saver) and your box will start downloading within a min or so. But there is no way to force an update until you are targeted.
