FIRST LOOK: Dish 500+ Dish 1000+ and the Dish 1000.2!

When will the 1000.2 be available? I have 2 500's and it ain't quite there yet for 129. No longer have recordings seize up like with the 1000 but picture breakup every 20-30 minutes is driving me crazy!

I am holding off on MPEG4 upgrade because I want a 1000.2 to help defeat rain fade...

It looks like a new LNBF assembly has been created for the 500+ which contains 2 LNBF's; a 110 DP Dual LNBF, and a 118.7/119 FSS/DBS Dual Band LNBF. The dual band LNBF has an output for each band, so this new assembly will require a 3 orbital position switch, either a DP34 or a DPP44.

However, it looks like the only difference between the NEW 500+ and 1000+ (not upgrade versions) is the addition of a second LNBF for the 129 orbital location. This will require a 4 position switch such as the DPP44.

Bottom line: The new 500+ and 1000+ will use the same new dish size and main LNBF assembly.

SuperDish 121 or 105 ----- 24" high x 33.3" wide

Dish 1000 ------- 18" high x 23" wide
Dish 1000+ ------ 23.8" high x 30.9" wide

Dish 500 -------- 22.5" high x 20" wide
Dish 500+ ------- 23.8" high x 30.9" wide

I did not find any information on Dish 1000.2.
Also, I did not find any information about 118.7W upgrade kits, including anything about using a SuperDish 121/105 to receive 118.7W. I sure hope there is a kit to convert a SuperDish 121 to receive 110/118.7/119/129!

A DPP33 switch may also work with the Dish500+ and might be the switch used for this dish.

From the information that you gave us the Dish 500+ and the Dish1000+ are identical in size. Notice that the dishes that was sent to us from Team Summit says PLUS on them and does not say Dish 500 or Dish 1000. They are going to use the same exact dish but different lnbf and switch setups. So basically we are not going to see a seperate dish for Dish 500+ and Dish 1000+. We will see a new Dish Plus dish and a new Dish 1000.2 dish (or will it be the same size as the Plus dish)?

Time to jump in?

Since Voom put a bullet in it's own head, i've been without HD (no OTA in my area). I'm considering going with Dish and the new 622 box, maybe two, but what's all this talk about new dishes coming out this month? If I order now will I be sorry a couple days later? What are these new dishes supposed to do (I'm totally unfamiliar with all the talk of the 118.7 KU Satellite.) Hep.

118.7 is supposed to be mainly for internationals and handful of HD local markets. Most people (at least at this time) will have no need for the new dishes.

VOOM is back thanks to DISH! I'm a past VOOMER too, and with 29 HD channels plus all my Local HD OTA, and their VIP 622 DVR, it has never been better! Jump in and enjoy!

A couple posts prior to this one, I had posted some links, the general info pages for the 500+ and 1000+ were updated yesterday (6/13). There were a couple of typo's such as Dual and Twin incorrectly used, as well as "Twin Dual LNBF" even used in one case. But I think it is all okay now.

I haven't found any info on the 1000.2 yet. My gut feeling is the ".2" just means you have a regular 1000 with a newer mast; with the ".2" meaning it is a 2" diameter mast, or maybe just twice as long as, or maybe the 2nd version.

I also have not found any info on a "repoint kit" for the SuperDish 121 and/or 105. Anyone have any info on "repoint kits"?

Thanks

Ok the Dish 1000 is 23.5"w x 18.5H
The new Dish 1000.2 is bigger at 25.9"w x 20.7"H

The line that threw me off about the size was one that said...

"Mast is slightly linger then DISH 1000, but has same outside diameter."

This is the reason I thought the 1000.2 dish would have a larger surface area that might be better for catching the wobbly 129.

That threw me off also, I belive there were a couple of changes in the original posts, then I think he met "longer" vice "linger".

Either way, I belive the only difference between 1000 and 1000.2 is the mounting mast/elbow; but I don't have a 1000 to check.

I read that it is about 3 inches bigger than the dish 1000 and the mast is longer so maybe making the arm focus the beam in a different part of the dish and further away is supposed to make it a stronger signal.

The triple lnb though shows all three lnbs sitting lined up in a row pointed in the same direction not up at an angle like the dish 1000 does. OF course this is from the drawings that Scott posted. But the triple lnb has a port so you can add a fourth dish to the mix and it works just like a dish pro plus twin with a seperator. NO external switches needed.

I am interested if it makes for a stronger more consistent signal with no excessive drops in strength. I want one if it does then I could add the 61.5 dish back to my configuration.

Maybe the Dish1000.2 will have the same size dish as the Dish 500+ and Dish 1000+ (all new dishes have the same size) but each dish has its own lnbf configuration.

No doubt this has been covered elsewhere so if you guys would indulge me a bit, I've seen this mention of 129 being "wobbly", is that to mean that the sat is actually"moving" around from it's supposed stationary orbit position, or does it indicate a low-power, on it's last legs condition?

Thanks. :)

Satellites have gyros in them that stabilize the satellite so it is always pointing to earth. In 129 two of the gyros have failed, and they have to use thrusters to keep the satellite correctly pointed.

Stargazer - On the the LNBF configuration -
I'm pretty sure that the 500+ and 1000+ are identical clusters, except you get/buy a bracket and dual LNBF to attach to the side for a 4th position on the 1000+

Hopefully tomorrow someone will have part numbers and prices.

It will last until they have just enough fuel left to boost it out into the graveyard orbit, and given that they are using fuel to trim it's position, that will certainly be sooner than planned. :D

Have DN and just got a HDTV, what do I need?
