Okay so i got my fta system in. Well on my first attempt i have been able to get 60% level and about 60% quality of IA5, is this normal, or should i try peaking it a bit..the receiver is scanning right now and has about 28 tv stations and 25 or so radio stations...i think im doing okay for a first timer...gotta go to work soon but hey im getting there. Any suggestions..

Thanks

Chris

60% quality is not too bad depending on where you are, dish size and what LNB you are using. Try a blind scan if you have it as all the TP. have different signal quality.

okay i cant get my level above 60% by i've managed to peak my quality at around 88%..its a 31" fortec dish with a 0.4 db lnb...and a fortec ultra receiver. Of course after i do this i gotta go to work but then i gotta figure out how to get the motor tracking right..im in waco texas by the way. I just cant seem to get the level up no matter what i do

Usually "Level" is higher than "Quality" but "Quality" is all that matters. I think the Fortec has a similar signal meter to the Pansat line (someone please jump in if I am wrong on that). If so, 60 quality is actually a pretty good signal for IA 5. On a Coolsat you wouldn't be getting a picture with 60 so its relative. Are you getting breakups or is the picture stable?

well aside from the one that says "bad or encrypted channel" they are all stable digital quality pictures...

okay i think i may have scanned it wrong because im getting some channels that have a $ sign beside them i am guessing they are encrypted. ..and im also getting a globecast la test patern(colorbars)...but the signal is really stable..i mean it blips a tiny bit every now and then..so far all im getting is foreign language everything with the exception of a few religious station sin english

its showing me to have around 29 radio stations but i cant figure out how to get to them..i just gotta figure out how to make the motor do its job now...i just cant get above 60% level and that bugs me
seems i should be getting better than that this far south

Yep, sounds like you're on IA 5 to me. There are pay channels there too if I remember right. Just use the "FTA Only" option with "Power Scan" to avoid scrambled channels in the future if you wish.

You can try tweaking with "1.2" to fine tune your sat. But as I said, 60 sounds about right for IA5. You won't be in danger of losing signal with the Fortec until you drop below 30%.

I'm a bit north of you (Arkansas) and I get 76/76 on everything I checked on T5.
I have about 90 feet of RG6 and a switch in the line . You're probably off a little on tilt. Once I got T5 spotted - a signal meter out at the dish helped - it was easy to get the rest located. 90% of the programming on it is foreign, mostly Arabic with Israel right in the middle of them but I'm watching some cute gals dancing and singing in Romanian.

doing a power scan now and im up to 93 tv channles and 72 audio

Sounds right! BTW, I swapped in my Pansat and I am getting only 55-60 % on about everything on IA5. But hey, I am new too so who knows-maybe I need an adjustment. I know I never lose signal on that bird.

BTW,

:hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Congrats!

woohoo..81% level, and 90 % quality on IA5..just gotta figure out how to move the motor now and it'll be all good. But gotta go in the mean time..work is calling.

damn.. i just moved the motor and now its gone...gotta get it back
