zero327 warned him that "they" monitor. I've got news for you: He's using a company computer and a company-provided network connection. They can watch real-time and see what websites a person is visiting, what machine it is, and what user is logged onto that machine. Maybe if he'd heeded zero327's and scott's advice things would be different.
To me it is just sad that a company fires someone over something like this. not like as if he was trading national trade secrets...he was helping people out and giving them info that people can use to make better judgements. Now if he was giving away technical data for lets say a dvr...maybe. But sorry to hear that. Hope you get back on your feet soon.
yes i am van. i just show a lot of restraint in what i choose to post. for instance when i posted about the new dns openings at the tulsa location, i did so with approval. most of my posting now tend to be about my personal use of dish as a private consumer or helpful tidbits to techs that do not risk any "information leaks", such as the thread about the clubdish card activations. the point of the installer zone i belive was for techs to trade advice with each other. if e* employees stick to that idea, they wont find themselves in hotwater. better yet, not announcing that we are e* employees might be wiser. its already known obviously i am one, so i tread lightly.

There's a reason people wait until the press releases (such as Scott) before talking about things. E* likes its privacy. And although I LOVE urban legends, I had nothing to do with this one. I advised against it, and was ignored. *shrug* From a company's point of a view (any company, not just E*) employees have access to confidential information regardless of how severe the impact of its release might be. One new channel or one new dollar, it's all the same.
Two things though:
1. Despite the empathetic posts he's getting now, when he was willing to offer up information there was post after post and page after page asking questions.
2. No one on these forums believes much of what you say unless you're an admin or announce yourself to be an E* employee.
Regardless of what I am or am not, I gave perfectly sound advice. He didn't want it. Whether or not I was in a position to fire him (and if I were, he REALLY should have listened), or an employee, or even living on the same continent shouldn't enter into it. How about next time just listening to another person giving sound advice?

I would think that a place like this would be a great way to IMPROVE relations with customers, rather than think of it as a "bad thing". Employees who help customers make the company look better and create a better feeling towards the company.

Many companies do in fact do this but they choose what employee(s) will do it, they define how much time is alloted towards it, and what information is allowed to be provided. Go to DSLReports and check their various ISP-related forums like AT&T Midwest, Comcast, Cablevision, and so on. They have employees of these companies who post there in official capacities.
That is a key point. He may not have posted anything "secret" and may never do so, but he could as he (may) have access to that information. Should Dish take that chance and allow it ?
Here's another tidbit: Many companies intentionally "leak" information to news agencies, reporters, websites, and so on. Don't assume that a "rumor" posted here is absolute top-secret. They may want that information out there.
well the only way I was cuaght was due to a specific individual trying to locate my username other than that i would not have been fired, point being I covered my trails and all did my post from a pda. Im not stupid I think it was worth it though that place was starting to tear me up.
This is a very good point. If Charlie would appoint someone to do this job, many people would still have jobs. Dish would be a lot more user friendly with the public. He could have a staff that could approve evrything that was posted. It is a shame Dish has to operate the way it does. Leaving the subs guessing and wondering.
Does Dish TV have anybody at all that represent themselves in an official capacity in this Forum? I think it would be an excellent idea. Sure would clear up lotsa things and they could report back with things that could be updated in the DVRs, etc. Sorry you lost your job ddgtomahawk. You sound like a good employee to me. And don't forget about a fairly easy way to catch a suspected employee - what Tom Clancy referred to as the "canary trap".
I was rather surprised to find his voice seems to match his picture; at least how I envisioned it. What a really cool thing to not only have a CSR modify a workorder in a timely manner (last Saturday, I think?), but ALSO finally get to talk to one who posts on here

Deny...deny...deny. The burden of proof is placed squarely on the accusers shoulders at that point. Combined with the fact the OP was using a PDA to post (assuming he was using something other than E*s internet connection) makes things all that more difficult to prove.
