Apple finally released a professional version of it's camera app that adds many professional features to the automatic camera that is really needed to improve image control. Image quality has been quite good for years on the iphone and with the latest iphones 14 and 15 Pro Max, even better. But often people who understand cameras and video production have thumbed their nose at the limitations.

For example-
Ever try to shoot a photo with something in the foreground and what you want is off in the distance? Now you can use manual focus and take the foreground out of focus bringing the subject in the distance in focus. Like shooting a subject through a chain link fence. Just limit the depth of field and then defocus the fence, rendering it invisible. Features such as zebra indicators to know what is in sharp focus and how to control exposure.

VU meters for audio.

Another one is now the selfie video can reverse the image when you save it so any writing is no longer backwards.

Another feature only those who wish to produce a multi camera production can sync up to 4 iphones and initiate recording from any one of them. All without wires and cables.

Cost- Free. :)

There is one negative I could not find in FC Camera app and that is no Spatial 3D video option. Maybe they will add that later.

After Hours focused on using the iPhone 15 Pro in professional video production. Don, you should find this rather fascinating. It’s an hour of video professionals doing a deep-dive on using the 15 Pro for cost-effective portable video capture.

iOS 18, what did you think?
