Ok, I am thinking of subscribing to Dish for the first time and I just have a few quick questions, help greatly appreciated.

1. The current HD promotion (200$ for 10 months) is it going to go into effect automatically, or do I need to send in some forms, rebates etc.

2. If I pay the entire balance upfront, can I get an additional discount in addition to 200$ as a first time subscriber.

3. I also found a Costco 20$ rebate on activation, does that mean that I can get activation for 29.99 and 49.99 back for 18 months commitment, in effect keeping the 20$.

4. Does the 622 receiver also have a turner which would enable me to have OTA by merely buying an external indoor antenna.

5. Are there any good installers around Boston area.

6. Can I ask that the installer brings HDMI cables?

Thanks,
Amer

1. Part of the offer requires sending in a redemption form.

2. No, that offer that you are looking at says valid for new customers only already.

3. I doubt it, though this I am not sure about this one.

4. Yes

5. Probably, though if you sign up direct you won't get a choice of installer.

6. HDMI cables are not included in a standard direct install, though I have heard of cases where they were provided. Do not expect it though.

You'll do better purchasing your own HDMI cable online. Try www.monoprice.com or equivalent for a good price, probably far less than the installer will charge. If you have the cable in advance then the installer will likely use it when you hand it to him, but don't assume he knows how to hook it up correctly! (Plenty of complaints about that in these threads!) You might also want to get a set of component cables and do a comparison. Some folks prefer the component connection PQ, YMMV...

As far as the OTA tuner, you can start with a simple indoor antenna and work up from there. Buy it from a place that will let you return it if it doesn't work. In any case you'll have better performance from an outdoor antenna if that's an option for you. Note that the OTA tuner in the 622 receives only digital broadcasts. Check www.antennaweb.org (enter your zipcode or full address) to see what stations are available to you and what kind of antenna you will need.

Regarding installers, before you contract with E*, check around in your area. There are local installers who also "sell" the same services and you can book through them, but make sure you're getting the same deal. If you shop around a bit before committing to anyone you may have more options.

Welcome, BTW...!
