Fed up with D* and 6.3a crap!

This problem is now spreading to CBS on my HR-250. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Since the software update my HR-10 has been on a death spiral, Green serious error screen twice, black screens, failing using HDMI, and audio dropouts. I have an HR20 sitting on the floor and i have another on stand bye.

i have had abc ota dropout issues this week.. so its no longer limited to fox.. I suspect they were always there - now just confirmed

When D* does eventually activate the OTA tuners on the HR20-250s what are you going to find to bitch about then?

I'm sure it'll be something.

Sorry: Why shouldn't he be complaining? I have both D* & E* HD and had friends over today to show off my HT. Guess what? DISH has the most to show off, but did show them some OTA programs in HD recorded on my HR10-250. I don't know that I shouldn't be complaining too with the audio issues with 6.3! Their upgrade DVR has problems too. Don't understand why anyone would not go to DISH (I have 37 HD channels with OTA) and stay with Directv for another year until they get their act together. Why complain? Just change services? Why wait? Pay any fee to change and enjoy today (could not be that much anyway) or add another bill to your investment in HD.

Some people are never happy and they find themselves using Discussion Groups. Guess what? I'm looking at buying a new Dodge NITRO (R/T when they come out) and just became a member of two Groups. It is really refreshing to see positive feed back not just complainers. Sure there will be some in the future, but so far everyone is very happy and pleased with their new car. Same thing could happen here. If you have D* stop complaining (I understand why they are however) and move on to something else. Life is short... Enjoy Today.

Do the OTA tuners work yet?

A typical Vurbano move. Trolling again. Nothing contributed to a thread other than asking a question he knows the answer to. Of course the OTA tuner doesn't work since it hasn't been activated yet., (as you well know) and I could care less since I can't get OTA anyway. Vurbano try posting in a useful manner. We thought you had gotten over your childish behavior. Is this a relapse or just a flashback?:D

It may not necessarily be D*'s fault since Tivo writes the software, but it certainly is not a "local issue".

THANK YOU! Someone who sees the big picture. When TiVo works reliably, they get all the glory. When TiVo has a glitch in their software, it's D*'s fault. It's like people who bend everything that Nostradamus wrote so it looks like he predicted history.

What was wrong with 3.1.x software? Oh nothing, if you don't mind making a meal while waiting for a recording you're trying to schedule to finally confirm. I had audio dropouts with that version on Discovery- and ESPN-HD all the time. With 6.3a, they're gone. Sorry about the folks that are having them OTA, but there's only one digital OTA station in my area and I don't feel like putting up the outdoor VHF channel needed for that one station.

People carped about not having updated software on their HR10-250s and carp now that it's here. D* takes the heat and TiVo gets off the hook. No wonder D* doesn't feel like dealing with them any more. My HR20 is working fine too, btw.

I have always had audio dropouts on the HR10-250 using OTA and on the HR20 on the HD local channels. We just turned on closed captioning so that when it happens we can at least follow what was said. To be honest, I'm getting kind of used to the closed captioning because you sometimes see things that you might not have picked up with the audio. ;)

I deleted part of your earlier post in order to make this one shorter. I don't think I changed the basic contention of your post. If I did, I apologize for that.

The point I was trying to make in my earlier post is that, for Vurbano at least, his D* glass is NEVER half full, only half empty. I cannot recall him ever posting anything positive about D* yet he refuses to drop their service.

Makes you wonder why!

Old guy has been suing and threatening to leave D* since he was a Young guy, geeeez I thought you were gone already. Vurbano, good to see your still the same as ever, I am not certain that your even a real human being I think you MAY HAVE ACTUALLY TURNED INTO A TROLL. Yup, audio dropouts, usually for 4 or 5 seconds, maybe 2 on any given night. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. Just call D*, state the problem and oh yea Old Guy, do what you always do and have them give you something else for free so you can hang on and complain some more.

Of course the OTA tuner doesn't work since it hasn't been activated yet.....
Then its a piece of crap until it does. IF it ever does. Please dont tell me you people signed a contract to get this thing banking on promises of missing features to work soon?

WHY ? because of the fortune in servers and modified equipment I have. I am giving them the year 2007 to improve PQ.

On another note, Please tell Gary Murrell the part about me constantly complaining about D* and trashing their HDLITE PQ. The guy was losing an arguement with me over at AVS and resorted to lieing about me saying that I was a big defender of D* HD PQ.

Is the OTA function enabled yet on the HR20?

My piece of sh*t HR20-700 works just fine (as does many other customers) and has since the day I got it back in September.:up Of course those few that have had problems are the ones you see in these forums. Normally end users don't start positive threads in here when it comes to equipment. (similar to your post).

The 10-250's have had bugs from the beginning and it is on it's way out. Whether your TIVO works flawlessly or not, eventually you will have no choice. Sooner may be better than later.:eureka

Just to come in on the end of it, I have watched the last two episodes of House live on our Sony TV's internal tuner and off our antenna just to check it, while the HR10-250 recorded the same program, also off the antenna. For the record, the tuner on the Sony TV is more sensitive than the HR10 atsc tuner.

Even though we have also been victimized by the horrible Version 6 software and have had many bugs, this time we think it was FOX OTA, not the HR10-at least in the Dallas market. The OTA HD broadcast dropped out a good portion of the show, and the HR10-250 faithfully recorded the dropouts.

I think sometimes the dropouts are real software problems, and sometimes not-this time, probably not. If you are watching FOX digital HD in this market, and you have an HR10-250, you are in double jeopardy.

Vubano. . .WHY ? because of the fortune in servers and modified equipment I have. I am giving them the year 2007 to improve PQ.

Any exactly who was it from D* ( Ol' Rupert himself, perhaps) who came to your house, held a gun to your head, and made you buy all those servers and modified equipment?

For Gosh sake, it you're as unhappy with D* as you seem, sell what you can, take a loss if you have to, and become E*'s or some local cable company's problem/chief critic.

My prediction is that even if D* has perfect PQ by the end of 2007, with full bit rates, etc, etc you and several others will still be bitching.

Some things never change!

YOU HAVE ME CONFUSED WITH SOMEONE ELSE! I have never sued D*. Yes, I have bitched a lot and as a result have received over $2000 in equipment and service upgrades mostly FREE over the last 8 years (paid $99.00 for my first install and $140.00 for an MLB season but got my 2nd (free) HR10-250 for free.)

Why don't I switch? Now it would cost me a termination fee if I did so plus up front fees for equipment and install if I went to E*. I hate cable companies.

What should I do: sit idly by and let poor service or equipment slide without saying anything AND pay full price for upgrades?

I don't do that with airlines, why should I do it with D*?

As for the 6.3 issue: they should not have dropped it on users without better testing beforehand AND they should have had a contingency plan to allow unhappy customers to drop back to the old software without having to PAY for a CD from someone else. I spent many years in the computer business and learned thaat you DON'T make a new system release WITHOUT a contingency plan.

Yes, I know TIVO wrote the software but D* was surely calling the shots. If not, that's piss poor management. How often do you hear someone that has a problem with slow customer service response from any company that was due to the CSR not being able to get the info they needed sympathize and say, "Oh the poor CSR is catching hell because of problems caused by their computer supplier"! It's usually, "Boy, (company A) has the worst customer service in the world".

And telling everyone they SHOULD have backed up their 3.1f software is Bullsh!t. You probably have a very small percentage of D* users who know 1) that you can back it up; 2) have the know how to be able to do it; and 3) have the resources to do it. I would venture to say the numbers of D* users that have computers also is very small.

The ones you see on the forums bitching like myself are the most fortunate in that they can afford D* service and a personal computer.

However, the nice thing about these forums is that everyone is entitled to express their opinions. My opinion is that if I want to try and get freebies from D*, the airlines, the phone company, Best Buy, etc. for poor service then I should be able to. Nobody is twisting their arm to make them do it.

Home shopping in HD?

BTW, even tho all D* HD receivers also support SD, I wonder if D* will use up the bandwidth by providing QVC in HD?
