Old guy has been suing and threatening to leave D* since he was a Young guy, geeeez I thought you were gone already. Vurbano, good to see your still the same as ever, I am not certain that your even a real human being I think you MAY HAVE ACTUALLY TURNED INTO A TROLL. Yup, audio dropouts, usually for 4 or 5 seconds, maybe 2 on any given night. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. Just call D*, state the problem and oh yea Old Guy, do what you always do and have them give you something else for free so you can hang on and complain some more.
YOU HAVE ME CONFUSED WITH SOMEONE ELSE! I have never sued D*. Yes, I have bitched a lot and as a result have received over $2000 in equipment and service upgrades mostly FREE over the last 8 years (paid $99.00 for my first install and $140.00 for an MLB season but got my 2nd (free) HR10-250 for free.)
Why don't I switch? Now it would cost me a termination fee if I did so plus up front fees for equipment and install if I went to E*. I hate cable companies.
What should I do: sit idly by and let poor service or equipment slide without saying anything AND pay full price for upgrades?
I don't do that with airlines, why should I do it with D*?
As for the 6.3 issue: they should not have dropped it on users without better testing beforehand AND they should have had a contingency plan to allow unhappy customers to drop back to the old software without having to PAY for a CD from someone else. I spent many years in the computer business and learned thaat you DON'T make a new system release WITHOUT a contingency plan.
Yes, I know TIVO wrote the software but D* was surely calling the shots. If not, that's piss poor management. How often do you hear someone that has a problem with slow customer service response from any company that was due to the CSR not being able to get the info they needed sympathize and say, "Oh the poor CSR is catching hell because of problems caused by their computer supplier"! It's usually, "Boy, (company A) has the worst customer service in the world".
And telling everyone they SHOULD have backed up their 3.1f software is Bullsh!t. You probably have a very small percentage of D* users who know 1) that you can back it up; 2) have the know how to be able to do it; and 3) have the resources to do it. I would venture to say the numbers of D* users that have computers also is very small.
The ones you see on the forums bitching like myself are the most fortunate in that they can afford D* service and a personal computer.
However, the nice thing about these forums is that everyone is entitled to express their opinions. My opinion is that if I want to try and get freebies from D*, the airlines, the phone company, Best Buy, etc. for poor service then I should be able to. Nobody is twisting their arm to make them do it.
