Warren Lieberfarb, who is known as the "Father of DVD" for his efforts to standardize the format while president of Warner Home Video, spoke yesterday at the European Video Perspectives conference about Sony, Blu-Ray, and the battle for the next video format.

Lieberfarb, who was fired by Time-Warner over a dispute involving personal bonuses that were wiped out by the AOL merger, is currently working as a consultant for Microsoft and Toshiba. Speaking frankly on the apparent tilt in favor of Blu-Ray, he admitted: "It looks like we lost, because there are six studios supporting Blu-Ray and only three supporting HD-DVD. But you know, there's always surprises."
