External HDD feature for ViP622 and ViP722: coming 8/15: $39.99

Scott, again - I'm not PR/Marcom guy, I'm all in technical details.
Sorry, but what they told you is PR. Remember PocketDish works before and all what they did use PD routines, removed HD copy restriction and add reading from ESD. I can write the patches in one week have source code, man !

Now regression test it against the entire code base.

It's one thing to make the changes, it's another to test them.

Cheers,

From what I am told is there some other stuff and its not poketdish code.

I dont have anything to do with that nor do I care to as long as it works. I think that 98% of SatelliteGuys members probably feel the same way.

I'm with you, Scott and thank you for all your time helping us stay informed. I don't understand why some folk want to pick this apart beforehand.

I don't know much about hard drives. Do you think that the external HD could be connected to 2 622's using a USB hub and both receivers can access the HD?

Yes, as long as they are both registered to your account. But say you have a friend with one, it won't work on his (hers).

My ? is, on the play back will you get 5.1 dd and will all the trick functions work same as 622 playback?

funny, like ANYONE knows for sure EXACTLY how EVEYTHING is going to work come August 15th....
Everyone should just chill and wait until someone actually gets the service activated and connects some drives..until then this is ALL SPECULATION!!!

Thanks Scott that was fast, I think I will buy 2 500GB harddrives. I was just worried about this. This will save me 5.00 per month as I will eliminate one of my sat receivers that I'm mostly useing for storage space. I still have a 942 and a 921 will probable replace with 1 622.

Excellent post and very, very true.

I would imagine that there are beta testers, some of whom are likely participating on this thread that know how it's going to work.

Also, Scott has connections all the way up at E*

Cheers,

yes, but since I have been a Beta tester for years with ALOT of software/hardware companies, I know that the final release code is never the same as the final beta code, and usually beta testers do NOT get to try/use the final code..It may be differeent with DISH, but I bet on Aug 14th at midnite, they will release a few final changes that no tester will be aware of...

And since they're NOT ALLOWED to comment on what they're testing, let alone the fact that they may be beta testers, "no one here" still stands.

Scott's "connections" have given him bad info plenty of times...

Unless you're part of the beta group, you don't know when the NDA expires. Once the NDA expires, all bets are off.

You do that sometimes to see where a leak is coming from :D

Hi John,
Did you watch the video?
The DISH guy states " this is a terrabyte and a half hard disk", while he is holding the drive. Maybe he's not a tech and just a PR guy, and doesn't know the difference, but I assumed he knew what he was talking about.
He also mentions that only one USB device could be connected at that time, but they were shooting for 4, giving the capacity of 6TB. Watch the video.
Scott,

Can you verify any of this (as in the latest info)? I've been wondering what to do when I eventually fill up an external drive. Swapping drives would be workable, but allowing multiple drives to connect would be better. :)
