External Hard Drive question

My family has two Dish accounts because we have two locations where we watch tv. We have a Hopper with Sling in one location and a DVR 722 in the other. We are consolidating to the location which has the Hopper. We have three external hard drives on the 722, but they do not appear to be compatible with the Hopper. When we try to access those drives on the Hopper, they are recognized, but we get a message that the programming on the hard drive was created on another system and cannot be read by the Hopper. Dish CS says that Hopper and 722 use different formats causing them not to be compatible. Is this true? Other than keeping two systems is there a way to get the 722 external hard drives to be compatible with the Hopper? Thanks in advance for any input.

The EHD's will only work on the account they were created under, so no there is no way to view the recording made on the 722 on the Hopper.

The harddrives cannot be shared between two different accounts. The drives are compatible with both systems but cannot be shared between them.

I was afraid of that. However, a thought occurred to me as to whether two different accounts can be combined into one? I would keep the 722 as it eliminates conflicts (my wife does not care for the shows that I watch).

If you're asking if you can view your 722 recordings on the Hopper, then no. If you're asking if you can use the three hard drives from the 722 on the Hopper, then yes.

You can reformat the EHDs to work with the hopper, but it will delete all the content from the 722 because it's from a different account

Your best bet is to keep both accounts open, but go with the cheapest package on the 722. Get a hdmi switch and you can switch between the receivers on 1 tv.

Keep in mind that these are two different addresses, not just two different TVs.

Assuming you own one of the 722s, you can keep it and still watch content from the EHD even though the 722 is inactive. Although the hard drive MAY of allowed you to transfer content IF it was transferred from a 722 on the SAME account, Dish has a completely un-informed CSR staff here. I have done it successfully and also beed very disappointed by it when it just will not work. Mist Dish folks tell you that content CANNIT be transferred, engineering tells me otherwise.

You could cancel the Hopper account, move the 722 account to the new location and upgrade it to a Hopper. The 722 drives would then be viewable on the new Hopper because it would be the same account.

You'd lose any content from the current Hopper account, only you know if that's better or worse than losing the 722 content.

It may (probably) involve termination and other fees.
