I am thinking about this hard drive, (Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (bare drive) - OEM) for an external addition to the HD Directv. I do not want to take apart the machine. I am an inexperienced technical guy but can understand if explained simply. Please let me know if this works and what other components I would need. This is my first post so I appreciate any insight.

Thanks,
Erik

A number of people have that drive working in an antec mx-1 external case to mount the disk in, and that includes the cable you need.

Directv is recommending the 1TB seagate showcase and 1TB western digital dvr expander. A few bucks more than buying a bare drive and an enclosure and not as large as the 1.5TB drive, but its plug and play and made for dvr use.
