For those who are getting new HD locals and need a new Dish to point at 61.5, there are two options:

1. Free dish/install with 24 month contract
2. Dish/install for $60 with no contract.

What about people currently under contract? For example, what if somebody has 12 months to go on a 18 month contract and they get the "free" install with the contract extension....are they now locked in for a total of 36 more months, or is it just 24 months?

My guess is that if you go with the "free" offer, you will start over at 24 months.

Yeah, I'd just pay the $60 in that case. No way am I going to commit to 24 months with anyone. I don't even do it with my cell phones, and I still get the good sales.

24 months!? No way, Chuckles. At my age I don't even buy green bananas and there is no way in heck I am going to commit to 24 more months of E*. After I lost signal last night for over an hour during the rain storm I am looking to go back to cable "soon", which they told me I would.

I thought when it came to local channels that are put on the wing satellites they have to give a free dish.

they do not have to give you a free dish if 'ALL' of your HD locals come off of the bird. The must carry decision stated that if some were on one bird and some were on another it had to be free. Along with that ruling satellite providers moved all channels for a current market SD (AT THE TIME) to one orbital location to save on labor and hardware. HD locals as long as they are all on the new orbital location, it isn't free

So in other words, if my local SD stations are on 110 and my HD are put on 61.5, I will be responsible for getting the dish pointed to 61.5???

Or are you saying that if my local SD are on 61.5 and my HD are put on 61.5 then they don't???

Short answer: 24 months

I just did a 24 month extension instead of the $60 fee. For me personally I have no plans on leaving Dish. I love my 622, so that is the main reason I went with a contract extension.

But you ask what about those of us with contact already in place. I signed up for DVR Advantage about 3-4 months ago when the $.01 Cinemax thing went live. And when I called Dish Thursday to get my Locals and the CSR told me there was a problem because I already had an 18 month contact, and wanted to add the 24 month contract instead of paying the $60. He had to talk to the higher ups because he couldn't figure it out, and needed to know what to do.

So after 5 minutes on hold I was told that the 18 month contact was waved and I'd have the 24 month contact instead, and it wouldn't affect my DVR advantage.

Complicated enough?

...Complicated enough?
Not quite:)

After some "discussion" I was told that Dish would install the wing dish for FREE w/ no commitment. Of course, I'll double check with a CSR after the dust settles and read my next Dish statement very carefully ;)

At least one other member has reported getting their wing dish "upgrade" free in the last few days. So it looks like this is an area where it may pay to haggle if you don't want to commit to 24 months (without any price guaranty).
