I have noticed through reading the forum that Expressvu's 82 satellite will not be received in the southern US.

We have set up a disk in Tucson at our winter place . . . and I am getting signal from 82 in the 60s but cannot lock on the transponders . . . we get programming from 91 no problem. What gives? If I'm getting some signal, shouldn't I be able to get the whole deal and lock on with a bigger dish? It seems I can only get half the transponders in this mode.

I just need to figure it out otherwise I will have to go with Comcast or something local.

short answer-do some reading in this area and you'll know why :)
search "crapelite" and you'll have the answer :)

longer answer-ExpressVu uses 2 satellites at 91 & 2 at 82. 2 are "crapelite" and are bought from DirecTV. When they shifted the satellite north to cover Canada, that cut out the west coast & south of the US. So if you are in the affected area, no dish size will work to bring in the missing transponders. You can try a bigger dish, but be warned it may not work.

thanks for the quick response iceberg. it just seems strange to me that i would get some signal. could it just be a lark, or is the small dish actually picking up a 50% signal from 82? i've read much of your posts about the old directv satellites, and it makes perfect sense. . . i just don't get why i am getting some signal. and still yet, the 91 satellite comes in perfectly.

thoughts?

there are 2 satellites at 82 taking the load. Between the 32 transponders at 82, some are on the crapelite (8 I think)...therefore, 24 transponders are on the "good" satellite (good as in it covers most of the US) so you are just getting low signal. A bigger Dish will probably help with those
