Am currently tinkering with the Ramsey Electronics LPY41, a small PCB log periodic antenna covering 400 - 1000 MHz. Can also be used for transmitting up to 10 watts so for hams this might be fun to try out. Anyway I have it mounted on a PVC pipe on a camera tripod. This way you can easily rotate it. From inside the house with no amplifier it's picking up most of the Philly channels, not shabby at all. Wonder how it would work for TV DX'ing?
The design is rugged and simple. Mine has a presoldered SMA connector but they sell for a lot less without the connector.
Also plan to use it with the SDR dongle, and rotate it by hand for portable/field use. Also want to see how it works on the ham bands.
This little antenna has lots of potential and use for tinkerers.
