Existing customer upgrades

After you get installed and working, cancel your Dish Protect and save another $8.99. If you need it later you can add it on the same phone call that needs a truck roll.

Dish changed the fee structure and rules for this. You need to keep Dish Protect for at least 30 days before you can cancel. Then if you cancel in the first 6 months they charge you a $30 cancellation fee. So you could keep it for 30 days then cancel but you would pay the initial $8.99 for the first month plus $30 cancellation to get it removed from your monthly bill.

"Existing DISH Subscribers: If You cancel this Plan within [180] days of purchase of this Plan, the Purchase Price paid by You is fully earned, You will not receive a refund or credit, and You will be charged a cancellation fee of [$30.00], where allowed by law."

There are many different state exceptions to the policy. For instance, in FL, cancellation fee is not charged. Check here:

That ancient $5 charge is what I get for not paying attention to my bill. Anyhow, after 2 hours of FB Messenger chat, I ended up signing a new 2 year deal which cut the monthly bill by $27, and getting the H3 and 3 Joey3s for $50.

I wouldn't have even paid the $50... they would have waved it if you kept pushing.
Also don't use the chat - should have called over the phone since you can use more leverage with a firm voice than you can with out of context chat.
Looks like you did ok but the $50 was too much.

That's not necessarily true. Sometimes, very rarely they'll waive the upgrade fee, but only under certain circumstances. That fee could have been as high as $150.00, so getting it for 50 was a pretty good deal

Seems they are more likely to waive a two-year contact extension rather than the fee. I had a $100 Hopper3 fee but no extension, worked for me.

I didn't mind the 2 year extension since there are no other good options for TV out here with the cows. Internet is too slow for cutting the cord and cable is something used with a winch. And 2 years will fly by. As for the $50 upgrade fee, I would have kept going but the wife was telling me to stop being such a tightwad.

Install was done today. The installer was great and I'm plenty happy with the new equipment and lower monthly price.
