ESPN's 30 for 30

Did you like the year they lost to Penn State? They thought they were great wearing camos, I guess they were wrong.:D

That is one game that I can honestly say that a team TOTALLY and completely dominated the game...and they lost. I mean Testaverde threw 5 interceptions and they almost won the game. Miami had 445 yards to 162 of offense. Miami had 22 to 8 in 1st down. Miami had 7....SEVEN turnovers and still took an interception at the Penn State 18 to seal the deal.

The 1986 Penn State team, IMHO, will go down as one of the most overrated champions in college footbal history.

Not just the Fiesta Bowl, but they barely beat Cincinnati, Maryland, and Notre Dame.

They seemed like a team that played not to lose.

THAT was a GREAT 30 in 30!! I learned some things about The U I didn't know!! I have come to realize WHY I liked The U.....they reminded me of the 70s an 80s Oakland Raiders!

And it made me realize, what 2 games(terrible game in the NCG against Penn State and the bull**** call on a fumble against Notre Dame), Miami and Jimmy Johnson more than likely wins 3 straight championships....

And finally, The U DID change college football....
I haven't seen it yet but you have me excited to do so ;)

It was HILARIOUS and good. Probably the ONLY ONE that will have some sense of humor. It really goes to show you just how The U COMPLETELY changed college football....some for the good and some for the bad. It showed that the state of Florida is probably THE RICHEST state when it comes to football talent in the entire US.
The documentary also showed the bias of college football and the media against The U...I mean how DARE that small, private school let all those black kids ruin college football?!

But they still lost.

Once again, they still won. Unlike the Bills who went to the superbowl four years in a row and couldn't win just one.

Why is Lane Kiffin's first season in Knoxville reminding me of Jimmy Johnson's first year in Miami?

Both had 5 losses.
Miami had 2 Live Crew. Tennessee has Lil' Wayne.
Tennessee has players that like to commit armed robbery, too. :D

So, should we expect Lane Kiffin's second season in Knoxville to produce a 10-2 record?

BTW, I hate to go off-topic here, but I think it might be time for jwfgeol to put up a new podcast.

There's a lot to mention- the controversial Big 12 Title game finish, the SEC title game beatdown, the Heisman, Brian Kelly to Notre Dame, the BCS games, etc.

I know, I know. Maybe I can work on one tonight. To stay on topic, I'll have to talk about The U.

I asked some former Miami players on Twitter if they saw 'The U.'

One of them responded to me and told me he did.

It was this guy:

Why was it "cool" when Jimmy Johnson's Miami teams were running up the score, but when it happened to them when they were "down", other coach's are classless?

I have NO ISSUES with having your 3rd team trying to score in a blow out game. NONE!! But winning by 30 with 4 minutes left and STILL trying to score with your STARTING SQUAD.....that my friend, is classless!!!

...and it's classless too to kick a FG with 2 minutes left and the score and game WELL IN HAND.

IF you are having problems remembering, Miami was blowing out EVERYONE...especially those ranked teams.

Gino Torretta was on 790 The ticket today and told a great story. The year they played Texas in the Cotton Bowl and blew them out 46-3 and tallied over 200+ yards in penalties....they were pisted. They were promised they would get the highest ranked team at the Gator Bowl if they commited, BUT the Gator Bowl was neither as prestigious nor payed out as well to the universities as did the Cotton Bowl. So they ended up there and they were pisted that it was cold as hell(it was like 20 degrees or something like that). The president at the time was this stuffy shirt by the last name of Foote who was like the Dean Wermer of "Animal House". He came INTO the locker room and basically ordered the team to basically play football and do NO dancing or ANY celebration...AT ALL. Think about it, a bunch of black kids from the hood, mostly Miami's worst neighborhoods...being told by some stuffy shirt white man what to do. And as you know....that did not go well. On top of that there was almost riot WITHIN the team because they had about 10 players from Texas....and you know Texans didn't like people putting down Texas.

...it was a great story!

30 for 30 fans, I have been reading that there will be a "Fab Five" 30 for 30 in March! This should be a good one, those were crazy times for college basketball!
