I'm moving on to HD TV.

I have the HD monitor hooked up to my standard def Directv receiver.

I just ordered an HR 24 HD DVR receiver and a Slimline Single wire KA/KU Triple LNB with built in SWM (SL3T-SWB-B) from Solid Signal.

Do I need anything else to install this receiver?

just power inserter and cable come to mind. With swm on the HR24 you need the PI-21 power inserter.

Will need to call to have HD Access and DVR services if you didn't have them before. Can do that when activating the HR24.

Any reason why you are ordering the equipment from Solid Signal instead of letting Directv do it for free?

About 2 months ago I ordered replacement standard def units from Directv. They arrived as promised. I attempted to install the first one and it was FUBAR. So, I call Directv service. What a disaster. I was taking to someone in the Philippines, obviously not an experienced anything, didn't even do a good job speaking into the telephone at her end. Then she proceeded to read from a script (badly). She had me turn the unit over to find some number. I had already read her the numbers on the back of the box. Finally I had enough and asked for a supervisor. She was worse. By the way, turning the unit over found a sticker that said re-furbished or re-built. NOT! Then I plugged the other alleged new unit in and it was no go too. Three days later a Directv guy shows up at my house to deliver another unit. It worked fine. Direct then billed me for a service call. That didn't work out they way they planned either. But it took raising my voice over the phone to get the next clown to rescind the 45 dollar service call fee.

So, I called Directv when I decided to move up to a HD TV. I got another clown on the phone who only wanted to sell me a Genie system. Every time I asked about a stand alone HD receiver she just refused to provide any details and immediately went back to the Genie and how wonderful it is.

And today I went to the Directv site and clicked on equipment. The only way I could purchase a receiver was to call some moron on the phone. So, at that point it was talk to a moron or go over to the cable company. A friend told me about Solid Signal.

Things don't always go as planned regardless of the company you are dealing with. I would call back and try again. The upgrade should be free.

J Crandall,

A friend of mine said I needed some kind of power for this system. He couldn't remember what it was called. That's why I went to the forum.

I found it new on Amazon for 7 bucks, no tax and delivery is free because it's Prime.

Thanks for your help! Ed

They only want to get you into that Genie system because it's an Extra $15 a month in their pocket.
