Email Notifications

All of a sudden this morning I'm getting email notifications when someone likes a post of mine. I haven't changed anything and can't see a place where I can turn them off. Any tips? Thanks.

It is the fifth checkbox on the "Alert Preferences" page. I'm pretty sure I didn't have all of the checkboxes checked when I set this up most recently.

I believe those settings are for the Alerts that you receive on the forum pages, not email notifications.

It seems to have something to do with Tapatalk. I clicked an unsubscribe link in the email and hopefully that will do it?

You're right, but it is the only place I could find that might allow you to configure something related to likes. Perhaps Tapatalk has its own preferences or is using the alert preferences to configure e-mail notifications?

Anyone that uses Tapatalk should probably lead with that seemingly minor detail.

I'm not using Tapatalk.

I happened to notice that the 'Likes' were coming from Tapatalk users so I investigated.

I can't imagine why Tapatalk would feel compelled to generate notifications to other forum users. Perhaps it has significantly more bare metal access to the underlying system than I thought.

I received e-mails from the Tapatalk users who liked my last couple of posts. I come here enough that I don't need an e-mail reminder. I'm heading into the settings to see if I can disable that on the Forum side...

Edit: Nope, not seeing it. I found options for alerts, but nothing about e-mail notifications.

It's annoying. And unfortunately something we have no control over. Tapatalk just does what they want.

That's the same conclusion that JSheridan and I came to; apparently Tapatalk wants desperately to make sure that recipients are notified of likes.

Perhaps other forum packages don't have an alert feature so they've taken to using e-mails for consistency.

Unsubscribing from threads that you have started or participated actively in seems a pretty drastic measure.

On the email you receive there is an 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom. So far that seems to have worked to stop the email notifications.

It's interesting that of the five Likes and Quotes alerts I had since this morning, I received zero e-mails. I think you've got it.

I just "Liked" your post above to test to see if you get it. If you return the favor, I'll see if I still get the e-mail, or maybe it's an Android vs. iOS thing where only the SatelliteGuys Reader App from the Google Store exhibits this behavior.

I'm not using TapaTalk so unless you are I'm not sure this is a good test. You need a Like from a TapaTalk user. I've gotten a couple today and no emails so I think it's fixed.
