EHD transferand play questions, first time trying...

Hi everyone. I purchased the 1 TB HD offered by Dish and received it today. I hooked it up to the Hopper and it recognized it with no problems. I started a transfer of what I estimate is about 400GB of show. It estimated the transfer time as 16 hours. I have a few questions, and although I searched the forums, I did not see these addressed. Any help would be appreciated:

1) Is it normal to take 16 hours to transfer about 400 GB from the Hopper to the EHD?

2) Other than the EHD showing as busy, and the data count on it changing, how do I know the transfer is occurring? Never mind, found it.

3) How do I view the shows on the EHD? I mean see that they are on there. Never mind, found it.

4) Is it possible to view the shows from the EHD rather than transferring them back to the Hopper? If so, how?

1. When transfering first starts, the ET starts ridiculously high, but if you watch, it will start to shave hours quickly, in about 10 to20 seconds...not unlike any windows downloads or processes.

4. You do not have to transfer back to Hopper. Just watch from EHD. DVR menu...Hopper name assigned...external device.

Thanks for the answers and for the link to the manual, which I do not have.

I waited five hours to see if the transfer time would go down, but no dice. It is only decreasing as it transfers. The total time will still equal 16 hours. holy carp! I am glad I did not have a full drive. As it is, I will not have enough time to transfer the second Hopper before I get swapped out in the AM on Saturday.

You could start a second transfer stream if you have a second drive ready to go.
The elapsed time will not be half but should be much better.
Yes, you have to plan enough time, ... next time as they say.
