KAB-
I can't help but notice your strongly held opinion about powering down the hard drive when not in use.
How is leaving it powered any different than what is going on with the internal hard driving in the 622 (or the hard drive in my work computer that pretty much is on 24/7)?
I've been anticipating that a future software update would allow the receiver to "know" what is on the external hard drive and not record duplicates to the internal drive when using Dish Pass, etc. I can think of a couple of different ways they might approach this (especially when using multiple drives - some of which may not always be connected), but keeping the drive powered would be easier. How likely do you think a feature like this will be? Will it conflict with your deeply held conviction?
I guess we should consider starting a new thread for wished for/anticipated updates to the external hard drive capability...
Cheers,
Red
