I have started using the PVR functions on my FTA receiver. I would like to edit my recordings. What software do you guys use to edit the .ts files?

Thanks for the post. I was on the VRD site checking that out at first thanks to google and now you. $100.00 for that software must mean it's pretty bad a!
What are the .ridx files for? Should I just delete those files?

I assume that's an index file but I really don't know. VRD can do a lot but I'm pretty simple in my use of it. Just edit out commercials from ts and mpg files I get from TiVo and hauppauge. Sometimes I'll have it do conversion to MP4, but usually I use vidcoder for that, especially now that I've been using the HEVC codec to make my files more space friendly. I can compress 4-5gb per hour raw mpeg 2 HD ts files to 1gb HEVC MP4 and not notice the compression on 65in 4k tv.
As osu1991 has already said, VideoReDo is great for editing the files. It is well worth the money. They do have a free trial period for you can see how you like it. You need to request a trial key from them. I have used VideoReDo for years now and have nothing to say but all good for their product, but more import their support is as good as their product. They will actually help you in fixing any issues you may have with it, or help working with your files.

I especially like the fact videoredo has a feature to try to clean up TS files if there is corruption or some other issue with them. I ended up buying Videoredo TV Suite after a lot of the TS files I recorded would choke when trying to use various free video editing tools. There has only been one recording I have not been able to edit -- I think it was 4:4:4 or h.264 4:2:2 -- and I would need the Professional industry version for that because the videoredo folks claim the codec licensing is expensive. Because of the expense of getting the videoredo professional version and the fact I've only had one recording of that type, I haven't made the big investment yet for that editor..
I went through the TS video edit fiasco back a few years ago. In fact, that thread is probably still on here somewhere. What I found was it wasn't worth the time involved when you can do 30 second jumps with the button on the remote to get by the commercials. That and I'm too "cheap" to pay for editing software and only tried the "free stuff", which was hit or miss.
Down side to not editing is you wind up with really large files to store if you want to save what you record. I've got EVERY episode of "The Blacklist" since it began and finally had to spend $50 on a 2 TB drive for it and some other stuff I wanted to store, ie, pictures, movies, software, Wife's website backups, etc.
The way the seven creates the TS files is somewhat of a PITA IMHO so I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with those but since I have 3 complete systems and 2 Micro HD receivers still working I WON'T be recording "The Blacklist" on that receiver any time soon.

Yep i was recording on my seven and then I edited the files with Avidemux 2.6 - 64 bits. The files play great on PotPlayer, MPC-HC x64 & VLC. However when i load them back on one of my little tb drives. Then plug it back into seven it says unsupported. Lol well I guess I better go back and convert the .ts files to mp4 and try them again. I think I am going to try blender's editing options this time. Don't get me wrong i think Avidemux 2.6 - 64 bits is pretty cool but i want to check out other software as well.
The way the Micro HD and Openbox S9 handles TS files is, those files are just over 1GB each and when the program recording runs over 1GB, it creates another 1GB file and when that one is full it goes to a third and so on. All those TS files are "enclosed" in their own folder named "[TS] Insert File Name Here" so you can rename the folder to anything you want for storage. Mind you, some of those folders approach 11GB in size

NBC on 105W isn't quite as bad but that one does come up to around 8GB per hour. My little Kentsfield Q6600 and 3g's of ram isn't gonna cut it. I guess i better spin up another ssd drive for my dual z setup. I have 24g's of ram on board that workstation.

No i am running ntfs on everything for years now. Fat32 doesn't even support large files sizes does it? Anyway the feeds off 103W Ku are those considered 4K?
Talk about huge files, my OTA HW150-PVR uses 10gb to record a 2 hr HD program. It records in the .mts format.
NO, the 103w NBC feeds are 1080p.
And if you had an AZ Box receiver, then you couldn't use NTFS with it, only FAT32. IIRC the AZ will read from that NTFS drive but will not record to it.
Lone Gunman, the NBC feeds on 103w are actually 1080i signals.

Yeah, that's what I want to know also.
I did some reading after I made that post looking for that size info but it wasn't in any article I read. 1080p is supposedly "preferred" over 1080i but they say that with the new technology in TVs now the difference between the two isn't noticeable with the human eye.
