Echostar X Arrived at Sea Launch.

Just trying to say that you need to realize that dish quality is worse than comcast now.

Worse than Comcast? As for HD content, Comcast doesn't recompress their material, they pass it through direct from the provider. HD quality on Comcast is incredible. If we only had a few more channels....

I visited the webpage, but I sill don't know which orbital slot E X will be located? Is it planned to replaced a current satellite or what? Can someone please enlighten me?

Nevermind, I just went back to re-read the webpage and I found it..."its ultimate orbital location at 110 degrees West Longitude."

What is the significance of this new sat? At 110 degrees there is currently E*8 so why replace that? Would this new sat require any new equipment for subscribers?

The reason to replace E-8 or specifically its spotbeam capability is transponder (TP) frequency efficiency. The E-8 satellite uses 5 TP frequencies for 26 spotbeam TPs allowing Dish to provide about 300 SD local channels. The E-10 satellite will utilize 10 TP frequencies to provide 123 spotbeam TPs allowing Dish to provide over 1400 SD local channels. Again these numbers are only for comparison because Dish appears to be planning to use different transmission formats i.e., 8PSK, MPEG-4 which also provide Dish with greater TP frequency efficiency and may require some folks to upgrade their receivers. These formats are independent of the satellite so Dish replacing the E-8 spotbeam capability with E-10 is not what is driving any requirement for receiver changes. In fact the only equipment change that may result specifically from E-10 replacing E-8 is that some folks may no longer need a Superdish to receive their local channels.

In fact, E*10 will actually reduce or eliminate the need for receiver and/or dish changes to comply with SHVERA's one-dish requirement, which must be complied with by June.

So ( I know its probably been mentioned), is E8 going for a backup for E X, or are they going to move it?

I hope that damn thing blows up on launch. Dish deserves it.
Oh yeah, like that'd help...

Over 2 years here and I've never seen so much trash-talking as I have in the past 4-5 weeks. People say DBSTalk is nasty. I've only been there maybe a handful of times (if that many) and it's starting to get as nasty here as it is there... That's truely sad...

Dish indicated in their E-10 application to the FCC that E-8 and/or E-6 (which is also providing programming from 110 W) maybe moved to another one of Dish's DBS slots. The E-10 FCC application appeared to indicate that E-10 had only spotbeam capabilities so as was mentioned above E-10 would only use 10 TP frequencies. Dish has license for 29 of the 32 TP frequencies at 110 W so if E-10 can only provide 10 TP frequencies, E-8 and/or E-6 would be needed to provide the other 19. Now because E-8 has spotbeam capabilities designed for 110 W, it is more likely it will stay at 110 W as a backup and E-6 be moved elsewhere.

I agree, I originally posted the info and the link I found to give people the information that didn't know or might be interested.

If I would have known this would have turned into Dish bashing I would have not posted it.

guys, everyone deserves his own opinion.

hell, im a directv tech and even i hope it doesnt blow up!

if it does, it might damage the platform and delay directvs scheduled launches:rolleyes:

kidding........

Please don't take the idiotic postings of one as a reflection on the whole board. ;)

I appreciated your info! :up

Did anyone catch the commercial for naming EX? It is still running on 101 and aired right before the chat. Of course it said offer ends 9/30/05 in the print but I thought it was interesting that they never bothered to update the demo loop.

They even brought in the winner to a chat earlier, too!
