EchoStar: 6 More HDTV Channels In 2007

To some extent CNNHD seems a waste. I have never seen anything on MSNBC of CNN that made me say "Gee, I wish it was in HD. Normally the speakers are in the center and then they clutter up the screen with scrollbars and such. Give em a bigger swcreen and we'll just see more clutter.

As for MHD. Maybe things have changed but seemed if you watched a day or 2 you've seen all their showing for several weeks. Maybe they have improved by now but not holding my breath. I actually enjoy The Tube, Its not "HD" but I like it and it is Dolby Digital on the audio.

As for weather channel HD thats another channel that HD seems would be a waste. I just would much rather have more HD entertainment than HD channels that waste the bandwidth

I've seen MHD at a friends house, and it's pretty good. For one thing, it actually had music on it, unlike MTV.

I had MHD on Comcast for a few months, pretty much is a waste. We already have a music channel in HD that repeats itself, dont need two.

I also agree with lakebum, if you have issue with this board go to dbstalk

Weather Ch in HD

Just like all channels in HD it will be improved visuals. If you don't want it then others do. You can just block it or watch the SD version. As far as why have if w/o the locals on the 8's that is being worked on. I would like to see the weather forecasters live being blown away by a big Hurricane in HD. :)

Seems like the age old arguments really. For most (I mean we all get over 200 channels don't we?) - they watch at best 20 different with any regularity. Problem is - the 20 or so you frequent will be somewhat different than the 20 or so I watch - and so on.

The expansion of HD capacity only means that we can have the same 200 channels in HD - it will NEVER mean 200 that you love, it CAN'T. But when the capacity is limited to be able to only add them a few at a time - that is the real problem.

Hopefully D* has solved this by their launch yesterday, and E* solves it with their end of year efforts also. Until then, there will be no way to please EVERYONE.

I caught a MHD preview last Sunday on Directv and enjoyed it as it showed videos as well as concerts not seen on Rave or HDNet... the PQ wasn't as good as HDNet but when they launch it in Mpeg4 that ought to help... I hope Dishnet picks this one up soon...

I agree. My main issue with adding MHD with limited capacity means that gives us TWO music channels, one taking valuable space. After we get more capacity I want them to add everything, because I watch something on almost every channel I have from time to time.

I just dont want bandwidth wasted on a channel that is similar to one we have, at least not till we have plenty of it.

The same goes for ChillerHD. Add it when we have space, MonstersHD will do for now.

Maybe so but I actually do watch CNN and MSNBC quite alot myself but still think using HD & band width is, for now, a waste on them compared to something like even USAHD.

I really have to wonder about some of these channel announcements. Its hard to believe they have all converted all of their equipment to HD,or that they are going to HD movies to show. More than likely a lot of it is goning to stretched and upconverted like TNTHD. I can see the studio news shows like CNN doing it but there film clips will still be SD unless they are sending HD cams out into the field.

Not sure about that really. For example in the last year CBS, NBC, and ABC local NY stations have put the local news on in HD. There are quite a few trucks they use in the field for HD, and I have to believe that CNN will begin to do the same. Not all at once for sure, but adding to it on a continuing basis.

All of this is a growing process, more is better than less IMO.

I agree. The more the better.

And I also agree, with 100 or 200 HD channels we won't all watch the same stuff; we don't now - but it will be nice to not have to watch any SD. for example, I just saw the Eureka season 1 is out on DVD; and I almost thought about getting it - just to be able to see the show in a decent PQ, unlike the crap on Sci Fi in SD.

Ive watched NBC nightly news occasionally and I have never seen an HD news story in the field. Maybe they do, but I dont watch enough to catch it. I probably watch CNN and Foxnews channel more.

200?????

In Atlanta both ABC and NBC do all of their feild coverage (as well as studio) in HD. I can only assume that The Weather Channel will do the same.

CNN HD will be great, then have been shooting 16:9 video for over 2 1/2 years some SD some HD, just look at their online video library you can clearly see the 16:9 clips.

Right now, NBC only has HD from their NY and Washington feeds. I expect that will expand a bit by the end of this year.

CNN-HD would be a great addition. I am especially interested in footage from Iraq in HD. I have seen a small amount on HDNEWS and it is impressive to see. You get more of a feel for what it is like as far as the people, neighborhoods, equipment. Just a much more absorbing effect overall like many things are in HD.

I wish that as E* adds more and more HD channels, that they offer ala carte pricing for HD. I would like the option to pick and choose what HD I want instead E* adding channels I could care less about and charging more for their HD packaging.
I get local news in HD, talking heads in the studio with SD news video; weather in HD?...who cares. I hope that E* uses some of that new-found capacity to not only add HD with substance but also put the WOW back in HD picture quality and improve SD picture quality too.

I dont think itll ever happen. What youll see is having to sub to a higher pakcage to get some HD, like you need the at250 now for NatGeoHD.
