Setting up a "new" echostar 3800 never been used with blue card with Dish 500 legacy Dual LNBF.

Reception is 70-80 on 119 and 90 on 110 sat.

Switch will not set up correctly - displays 119 - odd X
119 - even, 110 odd/even all OK.

Only get the Dish channel.

The box will not upgrade to 3900 or download program guide info. I activated the with Dish.

Have tried resets, unplugging, pulling blue card and, shutting off to let it download. Nothing seems to work. After resets I try again to set up switch only to get an error, I assume the incorrect switch prevents download, but don't know.

I used a 311 receiver box in its place and it works prefectly, switch set up correctly and get downloads, so I know my wiring and DishLNBF are OK.

Anyone know how to get this box working.

Gregg

Isn't the blue card the old one? I'm pretty sure you want to have a new yellow one. If this is the case you need to talk to Dish to send you one

Try to connect one cable from 110 or 119 to the 3800 directly. What software version you have now ?

Like he said try this. 110 is on the left side 119 on right. You must have one of the LNB's that were 2 seperate and requires a sw21 switch for this. If you get the same thing on 119 try switching the lnb's around. If it still does it you may be hitting the edge of the satellite. Then check to see if your mast is plumb and try resitting your dish.

I can't tell if he has one Dual, two Duals, or is just another of the people that doesn't know the difference between a Dual and a Twin.

I talked to Dish and they said the Blue one should work, although more channels with the yellow.

I have two Legacy LNBF that set the switch properly with a 311 receiver, but both will not set the switch correctly with the 3800 box

I have 2 legacy LNBfs and they both set the switch properly, but the 3800 does not switch with either LNBF.

Whether you have the blue card or yellow card will make no difference in the signal strength screen. What kind of signal do you get on 110 and 119?

I am trying to connect on legacy Twin LNBF. I actually have 2 of these. I bought a second one when the 3800 did not work. But the problem appears to be the 3800, because my Twin LNBFs work with my 311 receiver.

If your original post of the 3800 never used is correct you will probably have to swap it out with DISH. The software may not upgrade to current version.

software says 86PCLCV-N
Boot 10CBCLCV
Already directly connected directly.
You missed one number there: xxxPCLCV-N; look pretty old if current software is P2.36 or P2.34. Did you try reset all setting to default and left the receiver for half hour in offline mode ? I recall there was other method, named as 'corrupt NVRAM', can't find how to do that. Probably I saw it at yahoo groups.

Ya I've tried to reset it several times. There is something about the old software and that it has been off stream for so long that is messing it up - If you can find the other method - corrupt NVRAM, please let me know. Thanks

If you swap, do they give you a discount on a new one, or do they givve you a new one for free?

You really should read by yourself at groups.yahoo.com/group/dishmod in Database folder: PVR/DVR 501/508/510 Remote Code Sequences. All basic codes are same for most of dish receivers.
EDIT: I just found over there recent report about spooling software - your model in that list !

I recently tried to add an old receiver to my system (3700 or 3800?). It wouldn't show anything but the Dish channel. Finally got a guy in tech support who said the receiver's software is no longer supported by Dish.

He arranged to replace it for me (no charge) under the Dish Home plan (which I get free for one year). I just had to send them my old receiver. The replacement (3900?) works fine.

Call tech support and ask specifically if the receiver software is supported.

grb, since you not provide any technical info about that your old receiver, there is nothing to check, but for gregg2's case we have an evidence of future success
