No way to check this until Genpix fixes their turbo qpsk issue, but I'm wondering whether DN thinks that they have fulfilled their obligation by having it FTA on the 77 sat? Ie before that switched to turbo qpsk, it was fta there also. Maybe it's still FTA there?
But I really think that they have just done a major shift of all their channels, and while at it, just happened to turn all the encryption on. If that's the case, the 3 or 4 channels I'm still seeing FTA on other sats will probably encrypt too, as soon as they get to those sats.

BJ,
If you email Genpix, and signup for the beta program , he'll send you firmware for your skywalker-1 . I got mine last week , and it works on 77W just fine, with both Dvbdream, and Tsreader. NASA was still ITC on 77W last week, when I looked, but haven't checked lately. See this thread at Happysat, http://dvbn.happysat.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=52492&sid=fd139b81e9f1afee11d5c17c1214a140 .
:)

Thanks for the info.
I've emailed him, but I never asked about the beta program, I just asked when it was coming out, and he said it depended on both his firmware and TSREADER, and when the new TSREADER version came out, and the Skywalker-2 version came out, I figured it would be released for the Skywalker-1 soon, but it's been longer than I thought.
Anyway, since you say it's working, I assume that he'll release it soon, and he probably figures that he has enough beta testers anyway, so I guess I'll just wait for now.

Thanks.

WHO told you? :D

Yes, you were right, of course. I'm just a procrastinating and sometimes downright lazy person when it comes to projects. That's why I have half a dozen of them sitting around half-completed. Glad I finished the PortaBUD project! Now I have NASA-TV (all channels, including the LIMO and HD feeds) at quality that rivals DVD for SD and 720P Blu-Ray for the HD stuff :D ... Plus, with NASA now on 87W, I also get my fill of ThisTV!

If they can fix it for the Genpix, I wonder if it can be fixed for the DVBTech card? Probably, but I don't think anyone is working on that card anymore.

I've been advertising with my Dish Network Satellite dish for years. Time to tear it down.

Time to Advertise with a good branded Ku Dish. Who has the best? :)

My C band is a FORTEC.

If they've encrypted everything at this point, the only thing left is to put up one nonencrypted channel per satellite, but make sure the real dish receivers can not get it... a slate that says "nothing to see here, move along, YOU THIEF!" :D

They already did that some time ago, there was a channel that Dish receivers couldn't display but DVB-S did get it, saying: If you're watching this channel it means you're a pirate" or something along those lines.

There was even an irate user who created a thread about it :p.

If i only knew where did i put my old dish receiver that i stored once my subscription ran out, i could say if NASA/ION is still available... ooh but i did not get the new card LOL.

Cheers

M.

Seems the 2 "C" ports on my Invacom LNB just became USELESS(to me)! At least I get ION with my OTA antenna. To bad my homeowners associations won't allow dish sizes above 39". I hope DishNetwork falls down and scrapes their knee.

A red circle with a line through the middle would be great... I wonder if anyone sells stickers like that at just the right size...

Hold on to the Invacom. Not only is it a great linear Ku performer, but I'm sure that there will be times where the circular side will still come in handy (FTE)... As for NASA on C-Band, you may be able to get it with a miniBUD, since it is on a somewhat strong TP...

'm not taking down my DBS LNB yet...ya never know
(maybe because I cant get tot he roof...too much snow) ;)

I am very saddened, indeed.

For assistance in aligning my motorized dish antennas, the test card or "Congratulations, you are aimed at the XXX.X°W orbital location" were of such great help! They were so easy to locate since they were circular and higher power and it was obvious which sat you were dialing in on because of the message they presented.

From now on, it will be much less convenient. Such a shame. They could have left these channels free and clear just as a matter of professional courtesy.

Awh well, they weren't really that important I suppose. We can all get by without them I am sure.

Unfortunately, with Charlie and company, I believe professional courtesy is outweighed by professional greed. These people believe that if you're watching TV, you should be paying them. Just that simple...

Did anyone call or write NASA

NASA is only on C-Band and that is how their press releases/info is stated. They are not on KU. Per their site
NASA TV provides only C-band digital service (no Ku-band).

What we got from Dish was a nice freebie. Now Dish took that away. Oh well. Life goes on. If you want Nasa you have to get a C-Band dish. Saying anything to NASA wont change it since they have no control over what Dish does.

Yes unfortenetly the dish network freebie's are now gone. Echostar is looking for every avenue of income they can. We as true FTA'ers have the option to receive 4 SD and one HD Nasa channel on C band. What more could one ask for.

I'd sure like to see their agreement with NASA though, just to see if in fact NASA insists upon it being free. And there almost certainly is an agreement, because they insist upon other people (like HAMS) need to request permission to rebroadcast their signals, so I'm sure they require DN to request permission and sign an agreement too. Such an agreement is probably considered public record, so maybe there are some lawyers in the group who could request the info via freedom of information act? :)

Well not ALL the DN freebies are gone, but the ones that I'd be interested in certainly are. But I'd bet that some will be back within a month or two.
