Are there any major concerns when buying a used reciever (Dish 311) online from a place like ebay?

Other than it being hacked, broken, remaining balances on the card, or it being a total scam and not even being sent. No not at all :D

I just purchased a 311 last week, it was sent to me quickly, BUT when I tried to activate it- I couldn't because it was leased! So if you do try to buy a receiver on e-bay, make sure you ask for the card and receiver numbers and call and check to make sure you can activate it!

I purchased an 811 from a powerseller on ebay with a 100 percent rating. It was brand new never opened and only 230 dollars so I figured "what a deal". I received it and was pretty happy as dish had no problem activating it. Just check their rating before buying it and check their past auctions and some of the things their customers have ordered and it should be legit.

I just sold my old Dish 6000 for $340 on eBay. :D

Lucky for me its haunted. I was afraid that I woudn't be able to give it away, but the ghost actually increased its final price I think.

Ebay

I agree with BFG. I wouldn't buy a damn thing from Ebay, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.
Oops, I got carried away there. EBAY SUCKS !!

You can find anything on Ebay oddly, including as I remember a pre chewed piece of bubble gum that a security guard got from Britney Spears. Perverts bought that for thousands of dollars.

People get ripped off every day there - simply because they are not careful. I have participated in thousands (literally) of Ebay transactions and only got ripped off once - early on - since I was not careful. If you ask questions, watch feedback, etc you can avoid problems and I have gotten some incredible deals. The key is not to buy something unless you are very familiar with the item and all the possible gotchas.

Everyone has their opinion. I like ebay and have bought numerous things there and never had any problems. As far as Dish stuff goes I have bought a 921, 721, 510 and 301 receiver no problems. I also bought a NIB 522 and had it activated no problems.

eBay is raising their rates something like 50% or more in Feb. Look for the quantity of things being sold take a nosedive (as well as their stock price when they announced this).

I normally don't buy stuff on there...just sell my junk. And someone always wants it!

Bah! Get your facts straight - they are adjusting some prices slightly but certainly nowhere near 50%. A 50% increase would doom them...

Here is a email I've received from eBay concerning the new prices.

I have bought and sold numerous things on Ebay, even 2 811's. The feedback rating is the key. I have been stung a couple of times by people winning and not paying, but they didn't get the item so all it cost was a relisting fee.

As long as your watch what you are doing and ask questions is a good marketplace.

I've bought and sold several receivers on ebay and have had no troubles at all. In fact, my 721 and 508 are getting ready to go up. They'll go to a good home for a good price. As with buying ANYTHING ANYWHERE, READ the information and do your homework. Buy from a reputable seller and you won't have any problems. Ebay flat out rocks.
