I wouldn't be so sure. If they think you've already got the card, why would they mail another one later? Hopefully, the CSR put something in your file.
Okay, I'm getting smarter. I googled the 1000.4 dish and find that it apparently is just a larger dish solution to 61.5. This is likely the reason for the installer's recommendation for the newer, larger dish. My LOS is not ideal for the 61.5 sat but the installer indicated that it probably would get some signal. So I believe that is the reason for recommending the 1000.4. But he DID clearly state that the satellite(s) available with the 1000.4 were higher from the horizon, which my education as to reality is indicating is incorrect. My locals (Raleigh, NC market) are available on the 61.5 and it appears that is what I'll be getting with a second dish. I thought the installer said that the 1000.4 would be a single-dish solution, but I may have misunderstood that.If LOS to 61.5 is an issue, 1k.4 is useless to you.
Lee Beck: Based on my current understanding I would rather have the eastern arc dish and to get 61.5. Is this possible?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: Not at the moment. We cannot convert your over to an Eastern Arc install at this point. It may be possible in the future, but not right now.
(24DrDcb) Dan T: Its probably not necessary anyhow.
(24DrDcb) Dan T: The reason for your missing locals is because we had to remove them and add them back to the account to schedule this install, but the addition of the channels is not complete until the work is done.
Lee Beck: If I get the 118.7 now can I convert to 1000.4 in the future at no cost if the service is not satisfactory?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: I could not tell you sir.
(24DrDcb) Dan T: I could not tell you if there is going to be promotions or not in the future for that, but its probably not necessary.
(24DrDcb) Dan T: If you get a good signal from the 119, 110, 129, and 118.7 satellites there would be no reason to change over to the Eastern Arc install with a 1k.4 dish.
Lee Beck: The reason for my skepticism is that I have been active on a forum Satteliteguys.com or something like that and they say that the 118.7 will probably not be good for my Raleigh, NC locals. It may be a line of sight issue or maybe the sat is not a strong signal. But they are recommending that I do the 10000.4 option. If the dish is technically available why can I not get it installed?
Lee Beck: Will the 118.7 be received with my existing dish? or will another be needed?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: They will change out your current dish for a dish 1000+ that will get the 118.7 along with the other 3.
(24DrDcb) Dan T: I have seen no problems with the 118.7 satellite myself. As long as you get a good signal, you should be fine.
Lee Beck: I have no problems with a second dish, but I'm wondering why a tech is even needed. Do I need an additional LNB?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: The Dish 1000+ uses an LNBF designed specifically for that dish.
Lee Beck: Okay, I'm beginning to understand. The tech will change my dish to a larger 1000.4 dish with the appropriate LNBs to get 4 satellites and I'll receeive HD locals?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: Right now you probably have a Dish 1000, correct?
Lee Beck: We were typing over each other.... You are saying that a 1000+ and lnbf will give me all that I need. Is that a second dish or a replacement?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: The 1000+ Dish and LNBF will be all you need.
Lee Beck: No rithn now I have a 500+
(24DrDcb) Dan T: Are you getting 119, 110, and 129?
Lee Beck: And that is what is schedyuled for tomorrow, and a tech with a 40ft ladder will arrive to install it?
(24DrDcb) Dan T: They should. I'm making an additional note on the work order just to be on the safe side.
Lee Beck: ues I am getting the 3 sats that you mention
(24DrDcb) Dan T: Ok. If you have 119, 110, and 129, you currently have a Dish 1000. The dish 1000+ adds little bit of size and a different LNBF to pull in the 118.7 satellite.
Lee Beck: Thanks for the additional note. I'm thinking that with the newer dish and the 722 box I ahould be in good shape.
I just purchasrd a dish 1000.4 along with a vip211k receiver to use on our houseboat.
Yes!. Unless of course the houseboat is permanently moored like an Illinois Riverboat Gambling casino....Does this sound incredibly stupid to anybody else???
He could have written "I just put an evening gown on my pet Hyena. Do you think that will make it look better"...Perhaps he has some sort of gyro-stabilized platform on which to mount the dish.
I just purchasrd a dish 1000.4 along with a vip211k receiver to use on our houseboat. I have hooked it up and I can only pickup 72.7 satelite even after I run the check switch. I purchased this thinking it would be easier to pick up the satelites easier than the 1000.2 dish . The 1000.2 seems to be alot more sensitive to movement of the boat than the dish pro 500 . I have pressed the on/off switch thinking it would need a download but to no avail. The 72.7 lacks alot of the high def. channels . Hope someone has some ideas of what to try next.
Dishcomm could have answered the question . I guess he knows less about dish 1000.4 than I do. Unless you can enlighten me with your superior wisdom then keep your comments of ignorance to yourself .He could have written "I just put an evening gown on my pet Hyena. Do you think that will make it look better"...
And it would have meant the same thing.
45-55 on the 72.7 is not bad mid 50's on all the transponders is normal ...you could tweak it a bit but not too much..I just installed a new 1000.4 dish. I can get 55-60 on 61.5, but only 45-49 on 72. Is this normal? I have played with the dish for about an hour and that is the best I can do. I am 90% sure i have no obstructions, especially with the high elevation of 39 ( on the dish ). Can someone provide me with some numbers to compare with? Thanks.
Your signal also will depend on where you are geographically. Your best comparisons will be with someone in your zip code or at least in your state. The signal will drop of as you go east or west of the geostationary satellite(s).I just installed a new 1000.4 dish. I can get 55-60 on 61.5, but only 45-49 on 72. Is this normal? A good primer on Satellite technology as it relates to Dish users can be seen at https://rweb.echostar.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/content/tech/techmiscsat.shtmlI am in Michigan, zip code 49503.
