E* - better encoders ?

i've have both DIRECTV and DISH Network.

DISH gets the high mark for picture quality.

DIRECTV gets the high mark for picture reliability (I've never seen so many momentary dropouts in my life on DIRECTV as I have with DISH). DISH audio goes mute pretty often for a brief moment or you see a ribbon of bad pixels flash in the video. I've never seen that with DIRECTV except for when signals were degrading to margin due to rainfade occasionally.

My DISH and DIRECTV signal strengths are good so I know my DISH issue isn't having signals at margins on most transponders.

I sometimes have momentary audio dropouts from my ViP622, but never had the "bad pixel flash" you describe.

No complaints at all about PQ on my 7-inch BW set.

I have had both E* & D* with my 50" RPTV good PQ from both services.But the fact remains if your satellite provider doesn't provide the channels you want and at the right price who cares about PQ?.
