Dynamic Remote Control

We get these calls sometimes. A customer thinks that their DYNAMIC (formerly Mercury II) receiver's remote control is not working:

Symptom: Customer clicks on remote, he sees the power light on the remote turn red, but the receiver is not reacting.

Cause: The reason for this is that the Dynamic RC is a universal type. It has buttons on the top right hand side to control the TV,DVD, and STB (satellite).

Solution: Simply click on STB button. Then the remote will return to satellite mode and it will control the Dynamic receiver again.

If that doesn't work, the remote STB button may have been programmed incorrectly.

Press and hold the STB and the OK buttons on the remote until the remote POWER button lights.

Press STB
The remote POWER button will flash 3 times. Now the Mercury II / Dynamic STB code is reprogrammed to the STB button.

Next question is: "Why would the STB button ever need to be reprogrammed?"

Back when I was still new at FTA, I accidentally hit the wrong button on my Pansat 2700 remote before putting it down for the night. The next day, no satellite receiver control. I changed the batteries, even pointed the remote at a video camera to check the IR output. It took a couple of hours to realize what was wrong; I had hit the AUX button, I believe it was, on the remote. D'OH!

I tell customers to remember the STB button as the "stupid" button, because when it happens we all feel so stupid.:shocked

Next question is: "Why would the STB button ever need to be reprogrammed?"

For multiple set top boxes?

Back in the days of VCRs, some allowed you to set one as 'A' and the other as 'B' and then you'd do the same on the remotes so if you wanted deck 'A' to start recording, deck 'B' wouldn't also start.

Does that mean you can have a couple Dynamics stacked on top of each other and control one while the other one is ignoring remote commands? Or is it the remotes that are only programmable?

I got a new Fortec Dynamic receiver from Sadoun Tuesday and couldn't get past the "0000" code on the remote. I called Sadoun I think they had just closed for the day, but Steve answered and told me to check somethings. The red light on the remote would come on but the remote was dead. I just happened to think of replacing the new batteries that came with the unit, with some i already had. Bingo it nows works like a charm. I must say I've had good service from Steve, Brent and the gang at Sadoun. They may not have all the answers but they offer great things to try and check before my frustration over takes me haha....much better service at Sadoun than at some places I've dealt with down south.

My Merc II got relegated to the bedroom TV that I rarely use but the remote apparently got into the same situation. Once I applied your fix it started working again.

General Tip: A quick way to check if your IR remote is transmitting is to point it at your cellphone camera. Check the picture in the camera display. If your see what looks like an LED flashing light, then your remote is fine.

My Brand New Fortec Star Dynamic remote bought back in 10/2008 was actually defective but fixable. My remote when I got my brand new Dynamic just would not work at all out of the box new. The light would light up on the remote in all modes STB, VCR, TV etc. but it was not sending out any IR out the LED top in any mode. I took the remote apart after not getting any emails back from the place I bought it and not wanting to wait for something (Replacement Remote) that should have worked out of a brand new box and found the problem.

My remote where the transistor was inside needed soldered again. The thing was loose and after a quick re-heat up and solder, Bingo, it worked! It was not a reprogram problem at all. So see if your remote is emitting IR with a camera as I stated months ago on one of my posts, if you see IR you just need a STB box reprogram for the remote but if you do not see any IR through a camera, your remote is plainly not working and send it back. I heard from another site that the Dynamic Remotes are a bit hastily put together at the foreign factory!

Got to love things made in the USA! I bet there is more actual defective remotes that get sent back that has internal problems than the suppliers give it credit for. Just test your remote by first,
1. Brand New Batteries, if it still does not work
2. Check to see if it is send anything out at all by using a camera of ant kind, security is how I check mine, webcam or cell phone will work as well. Hold it up and see if it is emitting blue or purple light and should do so even if the codes are wrong in any mode!
3. If you do not see anything emitting from the top of it send her back!
4. You see light (IR) your remote is working and the thing just needs reprogrammed! :up
