I was wondering which DVR models allow playback without a satellite feed connected and which do not ?

I do not know about the older models like the 510. But I know all the current models allow playback like a VCR 522, 625, 722, 612 Kevin
Uh, without a satellite feed, you have nothing to record.
The question is about watching previously recorded events after you remove the receiver from the satellite feed.
Certain receivers have a version of the software that when the receiver is disabled, you get a "Receiver is Not Authorized" message that you can not make go away... so you can't even get into the Menus to view your DVR stuff...
You can get rid of that screen on models that have newer software (VIP series, for example)

I used to carry my 721 over to a friend's house weekly to watch stuff I had recorded that he wanted to see. Worked fine without a sat feed.
OK, I'll have to check that at home. Maybe something changed, because I know early on when I tried to do that, it would not.
When it comes up, it will be seemingly locked in a satellite scan but the menu button still works and you can get to your recordings from there.
At least, that's how I did it a few years ago if I remember correctly. Dish gave me a 942 when I complained about how MLB EI would foul up on it and then I moved on to the 622.
I might be wrong, just don't tell anyone here if I am!
Oh well. I guess I could have kept mine to watch the programming on it, rather than d/l to DVD. But I'm almost done copying off everything now.
