I have had Sat TV dishes from the days of the “big” dish and non-scrambled programming, Here I am in 2008 and using the DIRECTV system.
So much has changed.

I have an 18” round dish with the letters KTI on the front, I have 3 receivers; all the Samsung SIR-S300W. On the out side of our house there is a Multi switch with in put from the dish and outputs running to the various rooms in the house

One of the receivers while still being activated is in my stepson’s room and he has since moved out.

I recently purchased an R-15-500 plus DVR receiver thru a “good” E-Bayer with no smart card.
Since purchasing the DVR I have come to realized that’s it’s not a matter of just hooking up the in-cable and swapping Smart Cards, and activation from DIRECTV is necessary, (which is not a problem).

Here are my questions, will using the in-cable from the spare room be what I need to have two lines into the DVR (I will be replacing one of the receivers with the DVR). And will the Smart Card from the no longer needed Samsung receiver work with proper activation from DIRECTV?

I hope I have explained my situation well enough that someone understands my plight.
Thank you very much for any and all replies and assistance.

As long as the connections are from the multiswitch with no splitters you should be fine.

DirecTV may or may not allow you to activate that receiver with you old access card. If you get a smart CSR (yeah right), they should use your old card since it is on an old receiver already on your account. If the CSR balks at the idea, ask for the access card department.
