DVR filling up with paid programming

A few months ago I noticed my DVR started mysteriously recording 30 minute infomercials late at night. I deleted them and chalked it up to Dish screwing something up. I haven't seen them till today I noticed it had recorded 22 infomericials and filled up my DVR. This is extremely annoying. Then to rub salt in I accidentally deleted all my DVR events trying to purge them off my dvr. Why are they doing this and what makes them think I'll watch this garbage?

Dish will not set a timer to record infomercials. Someone went in and set a timer to record the program. Go into your timers and delete it. If it keeps happening you may want to see if a neighbor is doing it.

yeah, this one isn't a dish screw up, this is customer made. I'm not saying you per se, but someone with access to your receiver, or by a neighbor with the same remote frequency. Either way, I find it rather humorous!

actually, dish does sometimes record stuff to your reciever. i have noted it a few times in the last couple of months.

stuff like 'check out this new channel we have'. i just delete them and go on. usually they are short things like 5 to 10 mins long.

also, if you look in the TV entertainment area you will see programs that were pushed down and they change all by themselves. one week there might be 5 or more then next time i look there might only be 2.

note: my remotes are IR. i have a very few reoccuring timers, and only the wife and i and the dogs are ever in the house.

are you sure you weren't drunk and hit "record all" for paid programs?

oh wait if you did that you'd blow up the hard drive since they're on most channels overnight ;)

Yep, I've noticed those short things Dish records too. It's not often but it does seem to happen once in a while.

when i was a kid i hid wind up alarm clocks thru a home set to go off every 15 minutes all nite long.

it was worth getting in trouble one of my finest jokes.......

perhaps a friend set you up?

I don't think it's possible I'm picking up someone else's remote, I live in a house with a yard. It's really bizarre, these are all 30 minute infomercials. I checked and double checked my timers and schedule, there is nothing of the sort in there that would explain this. I guess I'll call dish if it happens again.

ANOTHER reason to never let Bob near your house! ;)

just change the remote address

bring up system info screen on the receiver
press and hold down the "sat" button on the remote until it blinks twice
type in a different number (10, 9, 15) between 1-16
press #...remote will blink 3 times
press "record" button...will change on the system info screen

I DONT need to visit to pull my jokes:)

many years ago on DBSFORUMS I suggested a killer practical joke.

Feed the output of a E remote, to a 300 watt amplifier and nicely matched antenna:)

Then go in and buy PORN on every receiver for 100s of miles:) run thru all remote codes. I always keep my receivers locked:)

Can you IMAGINE the E call centers as the bills arrived let alone significant others asking what have you been watching:)

In real life I am a practical joker identical to my dad and half brother:)

personalties are genetic based, since I didt get to know my dad till I was 28 years old
my parents split when I was one week old

I also live in a house with a yard as do my neighbors across the street, but they changed my channels several times, on TV2, before I figured out that one of us needed to change the remote code. I changed mine.

I am sure that they did not not know what was happening, when they changed their channel and I changed it back to my channel. They would repeat it several times and then it would stop. They probably gave up each time it happened because it would stop after a few changes back and forth.

This happened when I became a subscriber. They already had Dish.

Funny story, I noticed that my neighbor switched to DirecTV over DISH and I asked him why he decided to switch companies. He responded that his DVR started recording random things and changing channels. *L* Man I had the hold the laughter back, and he was probably wondering why I had a smirk on my face.

question about locals on june 3rd
