DVR choppy and "searching for signal"... Help please

I hooked up a HD DVR to my slimline dish and it only gives me a choppy "storm weather" picture and keeps flashing "searching for satellite signal". When I switch it back to my standard receiver, it works fine. the signal is somewhere around 90. I am running RG6 coax to straight from the dish to the receiver. What am I doing wrong?
