DVR buttons disabled? 501 & 508

I looked in the forums and couldn't find if this had been posted before. I apologize if I'm asking something that's already been brought up.

My kids were at my mom's house a few days ago, and said her "back" button no longer works on her 501. She rarely uses the DVR, but they sure do! I didn't get a chance to check it out, but last night ours quit working too, on our 508. We noticed the new software, the DVR allows recording of only new episodes, etc. But now it's useless since it won't let you go back, pause, or record.

Is DISH going to require DVR fees for the old 501s and 508s now?

If so, do you pay $5.98 for each receiver, or does one fee cover all receivers in the house?

Or do you think this is a programming glitch and they'll fix it eventually?

Well, something weird happened. The receiver was on, but the picture was black. I turned it off and back on, still black. I did a reset by holding the receiver power switch, and later it worked. And the DVR back button, pause, and record now work. I don't know if they released a faulty software version then corrected it, or what happened. It now shows P401 as the software version. When I go to town later, I'll see if my mother's 501's DVR is operable after a reset.

Ah, we can't do without our DVR, huh? Have you ever tried rewinding the radio in the car? That's how much we are used to DVR.
