1.4f is out and MUCH more stable than 1.4e

v1.4f (09.12.2007)

- ddsource.ax update (v1.8 )
- Fix for crashes
- Fix for "Incompatible codecs" error of video options dialog
- Fix for streaming
- New option to adjust directshow video packet size for codecs (Video options->Options->Video Packet Size)
- Toolbar is now collapsable
* New Themes: BijoBlack and hizlico99
* If you have a more powerful and new computer system, you must reduce buffer sizes and video packet size. This will help fast channel change and video-freezes. For H.264 , you might have to keep them high though. You can increase the "video packet size" for better HD performance, e.g. 8 or 16 kb. note that higher values will be problem for SD channels. (might cause low frame rate)

1.4g released

v1.4g UPDATED (16.12.2007)
new.gif
  • Fixes for user eurekalog reports
  • Fix for the crashes when video options dialog opened
  • Fix for the picture freeze caused by packet losses
  • Fix for Ch-Update/selected audio pid issue
* package updated due to TS record problem

v1.4f studders badly for me, whereas 1.4d is smooth?
I have not observed stuttering (?) on any of these releases. Recommend playing with the codecs and renderer in Options --> Video.

What is new

v1.4h (30.12.2007)

* Channel list file path is now adjustable (Options -> Preferences -> Channel List)
* Copy to clipboard option for scan results (New/Lost/Updated)
* Ch.List favorites folder-rename bug fixed
* Ch.List popup menu "viewable" option fixed for the problem with the channels that have same NID/TID/SID
* Fix for Reset DirectShow crash
* Certain plugin momentary key-losses are handled well now
* Auto-zap fixed
* * Now possible to share a CHL file between more than one DD installations. It is also possible to assign "read-only" access.

Are you running on the ATI 2600 family video card that does h.264 in hardware ? That is a big help combined with a good decoder.
My old PC ( Athlon SP 2800 + ) was heavily taxed on mpeg2 HD 4:2:2 video . I had to goose it up to handle that sort of bandwidth . Now I'm not seeing any particular problems, other than the tiny glitches in software releases. When I'm looking at feeds, I use Tsreader streaming to VLC, since it's faster to setup for a one time event. Having two apps available is a good way to find out if your problems are system related or software related ( If at least one app works ).

Athlon X2 4600+

Windows XP Pro,
Virtual memory on Ultra160 10000rpm drive
ATI Radeon 2600HD XT, 256 MB GDDR4
Genpix Skywalker-1
DvbDream 1.4h
Arcsoft h.264 decoder

ATI 2400 HD/512, 3.4 Ghz P4, 2 Gig DDR2/667, XP Home, GenPix, Technotrend S2-3200.

Using the Genpix with TSReader/VLC plays smooth 540X480. Using Genpix with DVBDream 1.4h 540X480 is jerky. Seemed like it was smooth a few versions back, but maybe that was an illusion.

Have not got the Technotrend recognized by TSReader, yet. Something fishy there.

I've NEVER seen jerkiness in TSREADER streamed to VLC. If jerky is going to happen, it'll be with DvbDream, but I'm not seeing any on the 540x480 stuff I'm watching now. Skywalker is only dvb pci I've ever used.

Codecs in Dream:
Video codec: nVidea PureVideo
Audio codec: InterVideo
Video Renderer: Video Mixing Renderer
H.264 Codec: ( obviously not in use on this steam) Arcsoft v2.15 9/21/2007

Anyone having recording issues with 1.4h?? Everytime I hit F4 to record, it will record about two seconds and the application quits. Went back to 1.4g and recording worked.

1.4g plays fine live, but recordings seem to be corrupted, as they play with the same poor quality on any machine.

Hey, brentb, Is there a way to get TSReaderLite to stream more than one minute to VLC, or is it only capable with the $99 version of TSReader?

"Hey, brentb, Is there a way to get TSReaderLite to stream more than one minute to VLC, or is it only capable with the $99 version of TSReader?"

Damn, don't know the answer to that ! I'm using the $99 version. Looking at the comparison chart at TSReader didn't tell me specifically either .

:(

If I remember correctly, that is one of the limitations of TSReader Lite. I have been using the standard version for over 2 years now with no such limitation.

That's kind of what I thought would be the case. So, I'll stick with the free DVBDream. I get crisp, clean HD video out of that with no problem.

Are you folks using Vista or XP with DVB Dream? We've got DD installed on both OS, but seems to perform slightly better with HD video on XP than Vista (using same decoders/renderers). But, I haven't got to play with DD on Vista much, so there could be something I need to tweak yet.

I've used DD on both OS's and I prefer XP Pro. Vista, maybe after the 1st service pack, I'll try again. My Vista Ultimate install was too big a PAIN to keep using it , when I knew XP would work fine.
:)

Well, I've tried pulling in so 4:2:2HD and 4:2:0HD but won't display, I only get sound. Is there a codec that I can download from somewhere to get this feature to work?

The Elecard 3.0 codec is available out there in codec packs. I only use it for 4:2:2 video . Can't say why your 4:2:0 HD stuff won't work .
My general setup for Codec's is:

Video Codec: Nvidia Purevideo
Audio Codec: Nvidia or Intervideo audio
Render: VR
Sound: Direct Sound

Only thing I change is Elecard ( instead of Purevideo ) when the feed is 4:2:2 . When I'm chasing the feeds , I stream Tsreader ( $99 version ) to VLC, it's easier to setup the single tp , than in DVBdream. Dvbdream is better for a fixed channel list, like 123W .
