I recently found a site that was selling a complete FTA setup including a receiver and a DTV36EDS directv dish. Everywhere that I looked seemed to indicate that the LNB that came with this dish was a single polarity..........It brought in both the H and V transponders. .......
We've had some confusions on the forum about what LNB comes with that or a similar dish.
Maybe an earlier model, or from a different supplier had the single polarity LNB ...?
.....
I know nothing about this particular dish, I assume that it's the dish that was used on G3C?
If so, there apparently is also confusion (at least in my mind) about what polarities were used on that sat. A couple years ago, Lyngsat was showing only one DTV-USA transponder on that sat, and they said that it had something like 50-60 international transponders, which was obviously wrong. At one time I checked, and found something like 10 transponders being used by DTV for video channels, including 3 vertical and 7 horizontal transponders. It was a bit confusing to me, because it seemed like in addition to the international channels, there were several regular DTV channels mirrored there. I think that for the most part, the international channels were on horizontal and the vertical were where the mirrored channels were. Most of the transponders had about 10 different channels, although one only had 3, so there were something on the order of 90 or so channels I think, which was considerably more than Lyngsat was reporting. Also, all of the transponders listed in Lyngsat as (at one time) being DSS-Hughesnet were actually being used all or in part for video.
Anyway, DTV was using both polarities on that sat, however it's not clear to me whether the people subscribing to the international channels had access to the vertical transponders, possibly why there were horizontal only lnbfs, but if not, then what were the other transponders used for??? Perhaps they had a deal where international subscribers could get some select US channels along with the international channels if they got a different lnbf?
Whatever WAS the situation, I checked a couple months ago, and it seems like they aren't using the vertical channels for video anymore. I think there was one transponder still up, but there wasn't much on it that I could hear.
Anyway, perhaps the single polarity vs dual polarity lnbfs had something to do with the past use of those 3 vertical transponders. ????
