I pulled out the trusty 5-gallon concrete bucket tonight and threw a DTV Slimline on it in attempt to hit Hispasat @ 30W. My bucket has a 1-5/8" pipe in it so I just slipped the right-sized piece of galvanized chain link fence post over it....instant azimuth adjustment just by twisting.
I have to go quite a distance from my dish farm since it is about 12 degrees elevation and I have to clear a building and some trees.
The Slimline allows for approximately 50 degrees of skew in the twistable mount bracket, and that is almost exactly what I need for my location. I didn't plumb the pole, in fact I leaned it "forward" a few degrees, also had to remove the elevation adjustment stop bolts to get the dish to face far enough down.
I knew about where to aim since I had aimed a BJU dish from this same spot, at 30 W this summer, so I was able to lock a signal in about a minute.
Here is what I got from a blind scan:
11970 H 27500 75-76%
11882 V 27500 72-73%
12050 V 27499 75-76%
12131 H 27500 75-76%
12170 H 27500 75-76%
11937 V 7499 70-72%
12137 V 3030 63-64%
44 TV and 44 radio channels
Coolsat 6000 w/.004 fw and SatAv/Digiwave SL2 dual std linear LNBF
63% is where the digital cliff is on my CS 6K, 76% is a very nice and stable signal. Now I need to figure out how high I will have to go up my tower to mount one of these to get LOS, I think it will be between 20-25' to clear the trees by my house.
I watched about 15 minutes of an old Asia (80's supergroup) concert on Educativo2, the music was pretty cheesy but Steve Howe is an incredible player.
