I am from GA and moved to the USVI for a contract position. I have been told that my US DTV will not be able to work in the VI.

I was wondering if I get a larger satellite and a stronger LNB would it not connect. The house I am staying in has an existing DishNetwork set up that used to pick up that signal just fine.

Anything you can do will help.

Thanks,

Wayne G. Christian

First I would check if DTVs footprint covers the VI, check the dish size required, dishpointer.com shows a list of available sats and dish size requirements for a given location, but I wouldb´t bet my bottom dollar on those.
If possible try to check with coworkers or colleagues already settled there for their experience with DTV.
If the signal covers the VI, and you use the right dish size and set up the LNB per se should not be an issue.

Being that you will be slightly East of Puerto Rico, you may want to switch to Dishnetwork, who offers packages for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Island residents. According to the coverage maps, you will be able to get the 61.5 Dishnet Sats, and some of the 110, and 119 Dishnet Sats.
On another website I found, you may need a bigger dish for the 110 and 119 dishnet sats in the USVI as it's called. What size of dish does your house have now?

The DirecTV sats don't cover the area East of Puerto Rico except for the 101 DirecTV 8 KU Conus Beam which has some "weak" coverage there. It's odd that Spaceway 1 KA at 103 and Spaceway 2 KA at 99 seem to cover the Puerto Rico area well, maybe DirecTV was/is planning to offer HD service in Puerto Rico? It's really a shame that DirecTV seems to have no interest in the Puerto Rico/USVI area.

good luck...
